I am new and can't figure out how to post a comment although I can reply to one.
Anyhow, I am considering attending a driver school. NETTS in Andover, MA. The recruiter told me the cost and I almost fell over. $9395.00 for 22 weeks of weekends. I'm looking for opinions on whether this is way out of line or in the ballpark for driving school. -
wow. I paid 2,500.00 for my cdl. I went through Smith & Solomon in PA.

I paid NEETS $6,000 back in 1992.
P.A.M., USA Truck and others have C1 school where they pay your tution for one year of employment. -
I would have started with Swift before PAM. One terrible DM, one who didn't care and the one I have now is decent. Driving solo with PAM you will make NO MONEY. Maybe two hundred a week. The trainers SUCK. You would have found out more about trucking by PAYING a trucker to teach you, instead of going to PAM. I had to learn the hard way about rear tandem placement, lenght violations, what to watch for in different cities. Their PLANNERS suck, twice I have been planned to travel under low bridges. The CSR's SUCK too...........getting the picture? I went to call a company to find out if they could recieve a load on a Sunday and the reference number was 800-800-8000, NICE!!! This happens about every fourth load. Solo I was averaging 200 a week in pay. I was teamed with this KNOB I went to C=1 with, his truck was a PIG STY. The whole cab smelled like ##### and I cleaned it. I stayed on for four weeks and made good money, but couldn't stand the black mold in the truck and I was a getting a rash and it was rotten. Finally screamed, got a new better partner and again made very little in earnings. Piss poor load planning and you will actually be doing most of everyone elses job there. Watch your pay, they will mess with it. There are some super sweet ladies who work in Tontitown, but they are understaffed. Now, in the second month of teaming with New guy and we get along great and are already planning our Exodus from PAM. We get paid 17.5 cents a mile per driver, so if we get under 5 thousand miles a week, we are screwed. The first year you are in trucking, you basically get bent over. Don't get bent over at PAM.

I didn't seem to have any problems making over $500 a week solo...there were only a handful of weeks I didn't pull over 2000 miles...
airforcetoo Thanks this. -
Markr good luck . wont take long to figure out that you have made a mistake and it all started with driversolutions and ended with PAM oh yea dont for get C1.
-
Hope u don't go broke. I have worked for them 4 years. They cut pay without notice and you should get in your time and move on
-
Who, PAM? They never cut my pay while I was with them. Well, I take that back, they did one time, and that was just taking of 5% when freight was in the crapper, and even that was just for 1 year. Would a starter company that "cuts pay" move you from .26 cpm to .34 cpm in just two years? I've been gone now for almost a year, but I seriously doubt it has changed THAT much...
