So it's been 3 months, here is a little more of the happenings with me and Melton.
THE BAD:
The detention pay is hit and miss, I have some shippers who are huge customers and I don't get my detention pay on them.
My miles are quite low averaging 15-1800 a week. Plenty of time to collect my thoughts while staring out the window...haha
My hometime sucks, been home 3 times in 3 months, got hit with a load through home for what shoulda been 3 days bacome 1 day. Oh well I reckin.
Night and weekend dispatch is a joke. You cant get em to call you, answer the phone and QC messages take forever.
The Good
It obviously ain't that bad, I'm still there.....
I get paid on time, everytime.
Never have to run illegal
If the truck needs work, or trailer, it is fixed almost asap.
My DM is good, leaves me alone, knows who I am, how I run.
It is definatley not a company for everyone. Just like all companies it has good and bad. I'm still there and its good enough to deal with.
On a little note, they seem to want me to run my day non stop except for load checks, fuel. Then have a planned stop point within a the 9-10th hour. I run like I did as a bull hauler, get in get goin and when I have to stop, stop(not that i stopped pulling a wagon). If I get 11hrs to drive I'm using all 11hrs. If I plan to stop at Joplin but I get there and I got some time left, well I'll haul to Big Cabin. But thats just me.
Thanks for readin.

Thanks for the info and the update. Well said.

Well I decided to go back to hauling cattle. So I left Melton.
My reasons are simply more money, more hometime.
When I left I put in my 2 weeks, was deadheaded to the nearest terminal, Dallas, Cleaned out the truck, they inspected it, paid for my cab to the airport (did not want the free 1 1/2 day bus ticket).
So easy come easy go.
Still I cannot say Melton is a bad company. I cannot complain, they gave me a job and the checks cleared.
I just personally enjoy cow trucking better.
Thanks for reading. -
It has been oh 5 months or so since I left Melton. I would go back to them and recommend them to many drivers. I have not gone back since I do not want to be gone 2+ weeks. All in all still a good compnay to me.
Funny thing, I was driving on 39 by my house and saw my old truck. They never did replace the mirror cover the crow took off.TDriver4Life Thanks this. -
thaow nnks Iraqvet for the positive info. I'm heading that way and g oing to give it my bll beest shot and it will be what it wilyl be. What's new? Good to hear you guys are doing fine Billsgirl. Getting the itch again? This trucking is like an addiction. Maybe we ought to start a "Truckers Anonomys" recovery program so we can be restored to sanity! LOL!! BE Safe and live life.

I'm heading to Melton next month. I would like to know what the orientation is like? I have been working locally for the past few years hauling lowboys. But my company has laid me off do to lack of work. Do they make you pay for your physical/urine test, hotel room, etc. My old company made me pay for my physical/urine test, etc. I'm really excited to go work for them. But if anyone can give me some of their experience they have had with them I would appreciate it. Thanks
-
They pay for everything to get you started(medical, drugscreen, etc). You will be fed when you get there and when I went through, they gave me a gift card loaded, I forgot how much but it will get you dinner each night during orientation. They will give you cash at the end of orientation(as long as you make the cut) for when you hit the road.
-
they do not give you a gift card. at least when I went they didn't...
-
Sorry, not a gift card per se, it was a reloadable visa card that had money loaded on it. That was used to buy meals or whatever. They may have changed that.
-
Yeah they dont (didnt) give anything. All we got was a lunch.
