Sharing a truck

    I'm a rookie driver (4 months OTR), but looking into team driving with my wife in the future. We can easliy live off $50,000 + a year, and from what I've heard, we could make that in 6 months. So why not take 6 months off every year? Plenty more interesting things do in life if we have the money and the time.

    Of course I haven't found a company that has that kind of flexibilty. So I'm thinking about becoming an O.O. and maybe going in on a truck with another couple. Any advice? Anyone ever heard of people doing this? Maybe a good company to lease from that would work with an unusual situation?

    Owner Operators have alot of expenses that drivers working for a company do not factor in because they are paid by the companies. It can take 50K or more to run a truck. Especially with gas prices. There is state apportioned taxes, tires, ins, income taxes, I could go on and on. Also, it is not easy finding work for your own truck. That in itself is a cut throat business. I suggest that you stay working for company for awhile and the wife keep her occupation. You have too little time in the trucking industry for this venture. Not to mention accidents can leave an owner operator broke. Think about it later on in life. Take care and keep on trucking.

    The biggest problem I can see with this setup is someone else driving your truck.....what if they trash it out and leave you holding the bag.....or they go belly up....and leave you holding the bag.....or....and the list goes on. If you don't want to spend most of your time in the truck that you own....You don't need to own a truck(or lease it, in my case). And like the lady said.....you don't even have a winter behind you in someone elses truck....you sure don't need your first one to be in your truck!! "Be patient Grass-Hopper...."
