It is way too easy to give Cat Scale their money and know where you are at.

You can run more than 12K on your steers if your tires and axle are rated for it.

Or you can run over the poor-table scales like I did the other day and get told you were 4,000lbs over gross according to their scale...but to any other scale around I was under gross by almost 1,000lbs. Didn't get a ticket or anything but let them know their scales were not right, in no uncertain words.

I was thinking the same thing!!! $10 is a lot cheaper than $2500 fine :biggrin_25513:

I don't know why anyone would NOT scale a load over 35k just to make sure your safe from the DOT taking away the pay for the entire week you just worked. It's not that hard to do, it's only $10-$11.... and before you say it's expensive to scale xx amount of loads a week, you should think about your rates and why you are not adding a scale fee in???

Not saying this is the case of the original poster, just many many drivers in general.

Twice i have been pulled onto the sclaes and told I was 1,000 to 2800lbs over weight. I went inside with my paperwork and the CAT scale ticket I had. BOTH dot officers read the ticket and compared it to my log book and dates and let me go. The one in IL said to me directly "We won't fight with CAT SCALES because 99% of the time, it is our scales and the state won't pay for a lawyer to go fight it" :biggrin_2559:

I dont think the issue is how much was on your drives and how much was on your steers, I think the issue is no Cat Scale Ticket..... Just saying

    Better safe than sorry.

FWIW, I ran around the scales once in my career due to being overweight. That was not fun and I came close to getting busted at a portable scale in Nebraska but lucked when the DOT waved me by because it was crowded with bullracks.

I usually find a CAT scale to check my wagon when I have a lot of weight on the truck.

I was in a rush when i posted this, Just a little more info on load, load weight was about 28000 lbs, I've done this load many times, and my gross is never even close to max, And to answer one post, no I didnt weight, not heavy enough, according to AZ and NM Im not over, just MO., Got a second trailer up there and removed about half the load, scaled out (extremely light), went to the wreckers yard that I hired to help (he had a forklift), and put the weight back on, stop at a cat scale and weigh'd the load, cat say 61460 lbs with about 1/2 tank fuel, wondering if i should try and fight
