It wasn't their fault I had a flat...wasn't my fault either, just bad luck.
Maverick done their part, they had me a load going home...but I couldn't get to Ft. Smith in time to make the pick up.
They did get me a load though, going up around Detroit for Monday morning. So I'm not sitting in Tulsa killin time, I'll get some pretty decent miles this weekend.

I was very impressed with that. I have heard a bunch of people claim how bad maverick was and why they were fired. It is nice to know that there are still real men that can take responsibility for their mistakes and not blame someone else. You are a rare breed driver. I know of guys that have had a half dozen incidents and still manage to blame the company on why they were let go.

Holy cow!!! Bravo for you familyman, bravo. Seems other drivers in here would blame maverick for having columbia model freightliners equipped with shallow cup holders which would've been the cause for your accident or "oops" as some have called them. I'm proud of you sir for admitting and sharing your story with others in here so they may possibly take it as a lesson learned. and now my story...
I started with Maverick in December 07. Having never been OTR i was assigned to a driver trainer. We left THE ROCK on January 02, 2008 and were hung out for 2 weeks straight, oh well, thats trucking. We finally returned to THE ROCK where i tested out and was assigned to my truck on January 17, 2008. A couple of months later, mid March i believe, I had left Potlatch with a load of lumber and was following 1 foot square temporary truck route signs on tomato stakes through town. I made a sharp RT during which i lost sight of the rear passenger side of the trailer. I was going less than 5mph, following the small signs and had been concentrating on the sign and not the 2.5' tall chunk of concrete that was holding up the sign on the sharp turn i made. I thought i had enough room to make the turn but the horrible sound of metal vs concrete proved me wrong. Even at that slow a speed, i damaged the tarp box. ASAP, i parked the truck and contacted the safety department.
A year later, the safety points I received for the avoidable accident came off my record, and I was nominated and recieved, the Driver of the Month for the month of April. What did i learn from this mistake.....Dont think, DO GET OUT AND LOOKLast edited: Jun 7, 2009
lammchop558 Thanks this. -
Does anyone know Mavericks policy on hiring inexperienced drivers?
-
They used to take new guys. Now I think thy are only taking exp hands tho.
-
They are hiring experienced drivers only...but they will train you for flat bed.
So if you have a CDL and some driving experience (dry boxes, tankers...whatever) they will train you. -
i use to drive for them, got hired in 7-07, got laided off thanksgiving week of 08, i was lucky that i was on a dedicated account for CCC in coulmbia sc, otherwies i would have been fired for poor mpg and idle time when they where having the mass firing in the 4Q of 08. they had close to 15 drivers on the account, now they have 2 left(as of april) and ccc laidoff abunch of there otr and local drivers, but i was the frist, they are not bad to drive for if you live in or arond AK, MO, TN, MS, LA, otherwies u might not get home much. when i came over to them i had 3y otr drybox, and they have a good traing for flatbed. if this help let me know

still taking on experienced drivers only but great company to work for. Keep checking with them to make sure though

I am verry impresed with what i have read about maverick, and impresed with the driver who admitted fault that takes some nuggets. Hope i hear back from the recruiter soon.

Companies that fire drives for their idle time suck. Buy APU's and/or keep your trucks rolling if you don't want them idling. I ain't sleeping in a hot truck.
