Hey now, the "Ground Steak" at TA is one of the best meals on the interstate!!
Dozzer,

Per Diem; yes or no? I understand that it can drastically change my gross for the purpose of getting a loan, but I am not too worried about that. I'd rather keep more of my money and not give it to the fed. They have enough money that they don't know how to manage. I like it better in my pocket. Plus I don't like to wait for it at tax time.

Finished the second day of orientation. A few good sized stacks of paperwork to be looked over and filled out. Medical, dental, 401K, and the like. Had lunch at the Mexican restaurant. Was a little odd to see a Mexican restaurant with a buffet, but it was good. Videos on driver wellness and the one that scares the crud out of you with all the accidents. Then we covered the Qualcom. Pretty easy to use it seems to me. Looks fairly straight forward as well. Just finished looking through the employee handbook/instruction manual. I don't want to fail Tom's test in the morning; he might break my fingers.
I will let you know what tomorrow brings when I am done. Perhaps I will know when I will be seating with a trainer by end of day tomorrow.

Day three of orientation is done and I am officially an employee of May Trucking Company. Pretty stoked about that. Got my driver number and my ComData card all taken care of, and a pretty nice hat as well. My bald head will thank me for it I am sure. Got my lock and pin puller as well as my probe. And I gotta say, the guy behind the parts counter giving out the probes was way to happy about giving it out. Way to happy.

Per diem? What if you get layed off? Your benefits are based on your gross.
What if you are injured on the job? Your benefits are based on gross.
How about Social Security in future? Your benefits are based on payroll contributions.
What if you ever do need a loan of any kind in the future? No underwriter is going to recognize per diem as part of your income...not in todays' economy. The Challenger and Dozzer6 Thank this. -
I elected not to take based on how much it affects my gross. Bigger contribution to the 401k, higher earnings for SS, Ect. The reasons to not take it outweighed the the reasons to take it in the end.
-
FYI I did not take it either
