    Hello All,

First off, I would like to thank GB, ORD, BG, IP, and anyone else who have contributed to this board. I have been watching this site for over a year now as my 26+ year Navy career came to an end. I have learned so much I can't even imagine how "lost" people were who showed up at a place like Prime "back in the day". A friend recommended Prime last year. I have to admit that I read a lot of negative reviews of Prime last fall but it seems I'm reading a lot of positive reviews now. That's a good thing. As my son relocated to SpringMo earlier this year and more family in KC it seems like a good fit. I have nothing to tie me to Florida, except the weather and the MIGHTY GATORS!! Both of which I'll miss.

    GB,
I chose to ask a couple of questions on your thread because we have the Gator thing. After reading up today I got on the Fl DMV site. Which tests did you take for your permit? There are 8 of them. I want to study up and get the permit. I believe I read you say to bring a sleeping bag. I get hot easily while sleeping. If I can carry a couple of sheets and a light blanket in a Seabag (duffel bag for you from the other branches) would that be ridiculously inconvenient? Thanks once again to everyone!

    where u from in FL

typing on phone so forgive errors

on the test I read the book as I heard there were questions for all sections on the Gen knowledge part. about all you don't have to do is passenger and HAZMAT for the permit. you will have to later though the I went to a site I think it was crist.com. took the pretests which helped. my FL.DMV.did not need a physical or money but ymmv

on the sleeping bag thing I am like you. so we took a full sized bed sheet folded it over sewed up thebottom and side for a sheet I can crawl into. this whole thing is mainly for tnt part as you sleep while trainer drives so u have to sleep on his bunk. I did the sheet thing since I am prone to kick the covers off the bed. I did not want to offend trainer by accidently sleeping on his linens. also we run all 48 and it will ne cold soon on the mountains. it was 50. in Utah at night and we had windows open and the bag was welcome

I packed a sea bag and it was a good choice. I'm not military so I got it at army surplused for 20 bucks

BTW not a gator. but I baited one 20 years ago and were still married thus the name

Thanks for the info. Congrats on the 20 years! I haven't found one that can tolerate me for more than a few. I live in Deltona but I lived in and loved Ocala, hence the name. Plan is to retire there. Have read a few threads of people who have gone to Prime lately and all took greyhound. I have a car I want drive up. I guess I could leave it at Moms in KC but would prefer to keep it in SpringMo. Can I? Will likely think of other questions. Hope you don't mind if I pick your brain? Thanks again.

BTW, How could you listen to a Gator fan for 20 years and not either love em or hate em? I have had a couple jump on the bandwagon after just a year or two. National Championships probably didn't hurt the cause! LOL.

I thought about it and evenconsidered paying extra to fly. but looking back I am glad I road the bus because it has driven be to pass this test and never rode that bus again

Thanks. I am one of those really attached to transportation. If I was back in SpringMo for maintenance etc, I would like to be able to get in the car and go. Probably not best idea but since I don't have a garage to keep it in it would still be out in the elements anyway, so, I might as well have it available. Plan to get a cover for it for the long weeks/months that I wouldn't be driving it. Thanks again.

Yes, you can bring your own car to training. Someone from my PSD class did. The terminal has long term parking for drivers.

    DON'T ##### QUIT.

I got to springmo for the test. I did the straight, offsets, and parallels fine. The Alley dock nearly broke me. 6 hours in to the practie I just could not get it. I would get it once then totally screw up 8 or 9 times. Instructor said you just have to keep working at it yo can put the trailor anywhere on the pad I tell you except that hole. So I worked on it with him just spotting the lines and I finally worked it out. Don't get me wrong he kept trying to help but I just could not put into motion what he was saying. But with bruised hands and ego I got it.

On the test my foot slipped off the brake during offset. I caused me 3 points. Alleey dock nailed it with out a pull up no points. (I did not need to but I was not dead straight so I did use one but I had the bumper in the box with no pull ups.

Then I mis heard the examiner on my road test he repeated himself and I got surprised and jumped the curb auto fail. So much for the trifecta. Went out this AM and only got 8 points.

I got my CDL. I know I earned this as it nearly broke me but I did it.

Sticking with instructor for TNT at least the beginning. His nephew is supposed to come back in a few weeks. But until then we are teaming. Waiting on load that is on its way from idaho for us to repower to FL. Hurricane approaching so keeping an eye.

More later as this was a cool week for the forum as well but no time right now
