Hello all, im finishing up school in a couple weeks and have narrowed it down to these 2 companies for my starter gig.
I was almost dead set on werner until i found this forum, and now im almost dead set on schneider.
Is werner really that bad? I find it odd because the couple friends i have that have driven, have said good things about werner, but im having a hard time finding anything good about them here.
My main concern is when people say they were promised a certian CPM and ended up with something lower, and getting minimal miles per week. This scares me a little because its not in writing anywhere with werner, as opposed to schneider, who has all the pay structures layed out on paper.
Im going to be doing OTR with very minimal hometime so the most important thing to me right now is having a good truck, because it will be my home.
Thanks in advance for the advise
Werner or Schneider?

Well as a student myself, I couldnt get Shneider to take me because I have no experience. You may wanna look into that. Now I have signed up with Werner for orientation, against everything I have read, but my reasoning is based on location. One of their terminals is about 30 mins from my house. So I have Us Express, and Trans Am. But orientation for each is located In Texas. Do plenty of research, you'll find this website to be most helpful. And most of these bigger companies, do not expact to become a millionare over night as a new driver. Hope this helps. Best of luck.

maybe you'll find some good things about werner at there website >> www.wernersucks.com
neither company is any good, but if for whatever reason you think those are your only options go with SNI
wayyyyy better options out there....FYI

Well I can understand that your one of the big dawgs around these parts, but Im no kid. I havn't lived with my parents in over 10 yrs. But anyways, I can understand everyones point of view. I've not been promised the world, nor do I expect it. It's only orientation. It's my chance to take a look and see what i think. I have options and will use them if I have to.

But trust me sometimes I wish I could go back to them days......

i didnt think you still lived with them lol. My point was to make you think LONG and HARD about whether or not you want to make that trek back home because you choose not to listen to years and years of advice and experiance from THOUSANDS of werner drivers.
Also with werner its not that they promise the world and turn out to be average, they promise better then average and pay you less then you could make on Unemployment
I know yout options are limited being a new driver AND from FL of all places, but i strongly advise you to try someone else, i hate to see drivers come back here after being screwed by a company that they were told not to go with.
Your first company can and WILL make or break you in this Industry
I know a driver on here now, that made a poor choice for his first company and is now so turned off of trucking due to their treatment of there drivers (not werner) that he's actully considering going back to his old career that he no longer enjoys....as opposed to risking the same treatment with another company

Thanks -
American Trucker, I do thank you for your advise. I will give it much consideration. I'd like to be able to come back here in the future and say that you were wrong, and crazier things have happened. But I do know in reality that I will have a hard time with anything, and As much as USX looks like a good company to roll with, in my area they only offer, teams and thats something I do not want. -
For Flat beds:
Maverick
Watkins Shepard (after 6 months on the van side)

KLLM (just DO NOT sign a lease) (not the best company out there but not a bad place to start)
Dry Vans:
Watkins Shepard
Conway Truck Load
Millis Transfer (only hires new drivers that go threw THEIR school)
