Sorry for the delay in getting back, I'm sure you understand how the job effects one's ability to get online :D

I got my CDL in '01 and couldn't use it due to being young and having a turbocharged Mustang, you do the rest of the math on that one :D

I finally started driving professionally in '05 as a yard jockey then went into driving straight trucks locally. I spent about three years doing that, with some occasional 48' flatbeds mixed in, before moving and trying to get into OTR. No OTR company wanted to touch me, local work isn't "experience", though after doing both I would beg to differ. Every training company wanted me to go back through their school and sign the 1-year contract and all that BS. That was when I contacted the local driving school.

Swift hired me after taking the word from the school that I knew what I was doing. I spent my 6-weeks with their trainers, then went at it on my own. If you turn my user name into a website address(all lowercase) you can read the rest of the story.

I know everyone here rags on Swift, and they deserve it, but if you can get in without the contract it just might be worth it to stick with them for 6-months to a year. Don't feel bad for leaving them early. It's like the nice lady at the school told me, they use drivers, why not use them if you need to?

It was a crazy couple years I spent at Swift, but now I'm running a dedicated account at SNI and couldn't be happier.

This is his main problem, not helped by his lack of recent experience. Many companies won't hire a freshly terminated driver. Others will only with a review of the reason, and most of those won't hire if the review reveals a safety issue led to the termination. There are very few big companies that will hire him. His best bet is to find a small company with a few trucks. Of course, this can come with it's own problems.

If there is a stress problem and if this led to to the crash, he really should get some professional help before getting back in the driver seat. I understand you probably need money now, but its hard to make money in prison when you're convicted of vehicular homicide. On top of that, if your husband didn't realize that you can't cause crashes and keep your job, maybe he should find another profession.

STRESS PROBLEM: His dispatcher!! I don't care who you are and what you say, being re-dispatched 5times in Sacramento...no trailer anywhere he was sent for one...all within such a tight amount of time...ALL 15-40 miles from one dispatch to the other...would stress the best!!! He does not have a stress problem outside of that truck and in case you're interested, the accident report lists the other driver at fault (came up around on his driver side to pass!) - she also didn't have a #### license! He takes the hit because he's a professional driver and did not realize he was not supposed to make the turn where he did. He did not cause the accident. As far as having accidents and continuing to drive, I encourage you to look at the # of accidents allowed at a lot of companies. Yes, he got terminated but I have heard from many that a driver can end up the scapegoat for a company. Maybe you didn't pay attention to all of the details, but he's not some foaming at the mouth, wreckless maniac!
