maybe O/O and your own authority, the cost will be heavy for insurance like stated already, but with 20 years, you have got to have some O/O buddies to talk with...Maybe get on with a guy running a small fleet...just a thought...

Even the companies most people here call "bottom feeders" won't look at you until a lot more time is between you and that DUII. As said before, I would have expected 20 years at this would have been enough to learn from others' mistakes. Apparently, some folks just have to find out for themselves. But, I'm not going to beat you about the head and shoulders for it. I'm sure you've already gotten plenty of that.
I don't know how many logging or chipper companies there are around there, but you might try them. Also, it would take you away from home, but there are oil fields in PA desperate for CDL holders, they pay excellent money. Since they are so desperate for drivers, they might cut you a break on that DUII as long as your license is valid again and your court issues are completely settled and done. That means all fines paid and no probation or "time" hanging over your head. Good luck to you. You'll need it. -

Even if you get your own authority, you will run into the same problem with insurance coverage. Insurance companies usually check the last 3 years of your MVR. You may find an insurance company that will cover you but expect a hefty premium until the DUI drops off your record. That is providing you can find a company that will cover you.
Most carriers won't hire a driver who has a DUI for at least 5 years. Some will not hire you until at least 10 years have passed. Others don't hire anyone who has ever had a DUI. You will need to get on the phone and start making calls to carriers. You might find a smaller carrier who will hire you, but most insurance companies will not cover anyone who has a DUI on their MVR.BigJohn54 Thanks this. -
And, in the end, it may not even be worth it, even if he does get hired - he's not going to want to stay there forever, and when he gets back to the US, what's he going to be told? That his time over there doesn't count. He might find some smaller carriers who would be willing to count it, but if anyone with any authority in that company knows someone who was injured or killed by a drunk driver.. well, the outcome isn't good.
A license suspension is one thing. A DUI is a much more serious matter, especially for someone with over 20 years experience. If it had happened when he was still fairly green, and a below the age where you're expected to have sown all your wild oats, it would probably actually have been better for him. But there's going to be a lot of, "wait... 20 years, and you STILL....". -
You probably have Zero chance of getting a job driving for any major carrier (both big and small). You might want to try Craigs List or something of that nature and find an OO or a small fleet that might hire you but with the way Insurance companies dictate hiring policies for any and all trucking companies, i'd say your chances are slim to none.
Good luck and drive sober. -
