I am rather new to trucking. Perhaps there are many non-married, M/F, team drivers out there and I just haven't run into them....

    But here's my question....

I am currently driving solo for Swift. I have a clean record and consider myself to be a safe, conscienscious driver. However, as solo, I can't get enough miles to make the kind of money I would like to make.

Generally, I find that men and women are more polite to one another, more professional, etc. I have seen many cops partnered in mixed gender assignments and fare very well. Many women report better friendships with men than with women.

I am thinking of teaming up with a woman for team status. I haven't found a lady to team with yet....I am thinking it could work well for many reasons. What do all of you think? Any ladies like this idea also?

I look forward to everyone's responses

    Yes and no.

i've teamed with women in short doses and couldn't stand them, but slept really good.

i've teamed up with men and got along very well but they were unrelenting about the job and thus i didn't not sleep well at all which seriously affected not only my physical health but just as importantly if not more importantly, my mental health.

This is one fundamental difference between men and women: Men can tend to be more goal/numbers/production oriented and thus can be very driven and unrelenting.

Women, on the other hand, can tend to be more nurturing and more atuned to the human side of trucking. Thus, they might tend to be a little less concerned with absolutely positively gotta get it there in record time kind of driving. And tend to be more wanting to just work steady and careful. (i've noticed that women must/tend to/want to stop to go to the bathroom more often, so this may have something to do with it.)

When was the last time you saw a woman driver that was crazy and had tunnel vision as far as speeding and having to "get it there" at all costs? You know, "billy big rigger" type?

Men tend to be fairly rigid, not wanting to compromise.

Women will be more open, wanting to listen and take in consideration your feelings.

Do you want a man to conform to your wishes? Good luck wit dat. It's the exception rather than the rule. On the other hand, a woman will tend to want to please you.

Much more on this fascinating topic.

P.S. If you want to team with a woman, look to Covenant. i think they have the most women drivers of any company.

Oh Lordy, this is gonna be fun.:biggrin_25523:

Say what? Where are these women? Never met a woman in my life who was not at heart a control freak. Comes from the "Mommy" gene I think. If you ain't hollering at us, y'all go into "Mind Game" phase.

    Man..... What's wrong??

    Woman... Nothing (sniff).

Man.... Well something's bothering you, what izzit?

Woman.... If you really cared you'd already know (single tear and then six hours of dead silence).

Woman..... (Six hours later and out of nowhere) You left my box of Kleenex back in the bunk and didn't put it up on the dash for me.

Man.... (having forgot what the whole conversation was) Huh? What?

    Woman.... Nothing (sniff).

Teaming with a woman is just as bad as being with your wife, they give you headaches!..:biggrin_2559:

On the other note, personally I wouldn't team up with a woman,if I did it would be my wife,I lease I know how to keep her in track...:biggrin_25525:

I have ran team with a guy before and enjoyed it.the reason I am not running team with him now is that after 4 months of running together his wife(didnt know he had anyone)had dispatch send a emergency dispatch. He tried to explain but he was kicked out of the truck.Women dont tolerate liars to well. And as far as women not running as hard is a crock.as a owner operater I got alot of loads other drivers refused and dispatched always remembered the favors.

I had female roommates that I wasn't in a relationship with when I lived in NC. I've never driven team with one, and, after that experience, probably never would. I got along great with my roommates. But there was still awkward and embarrassing moments, there was still conflict from time to time... which was manageable in a setting such as that one, but could be very detrimental in a workplace setting. It wouldn't be like working in an office and having a woman in the cubicle next to you. It's much closer proximity, you're going to be around each other 24/7... if the OP believes it would be how he imagines it will turn out, then I hope he gets his wish. Should be a good laugh to find out the many ways it all ends up going asunder.

Everyone's comments are well received. I agree that women likely drive just as hard as men. And I know plenty of cry-baby ####### who can't drive nearly as well as some women.

Certainly, no one wants to be painted with a broad brush.

i did not state that women "don't drive as hard as men." Quite the contrary; What i meant, and i think you'll agree, was that there are VERY few women who are crazy like driving way over hours, driving 85mph plus, taking pills etc. to relentlessly deliver loads so as to try to make maximum money in a given period of time.

If, under legal limits, i think that they work just as dilligently as men for the most part.

In short, you generally will not find women drivers who are insane like that. They may be insane, however, for other reasons.
