Hi,
I have a dump trailer with 11 R 24.5 tires on one axle and 10.00-22 bias plys on the other axle. I need to replace the 10.00-22 tube tires and am having a hard time finding 11 R 24.5 tires (I am trying to buy recaps).
My rookie question is (and I guessing I already know the answer) can I have 11 R 22.5 tires on one axle and 11 R 24.5 tires on the other axle legally and if so, is it a smart thing to do?
Thanks in advance,
Fred

Not sure about the ruloes and regs, but it is WRONG for proper operation and function of the ABS system, brakes and suspension.
Very wrong.FredW Thanks this. -
I run low pro 24.5s (same height as 11/22.5) with 11/24.5s for awhile till I wore the low pros out. Never had any trouble with the abs or anything else. You would never know it form the cab.

If the outside diameter is the same from one tire to the other there should not be a problem. That being said, I still would rather tell you to stick with all tires of same #'s

You have been running diff sizes on them now...any problems?
Keep the entire axle the same size should be no worries.
ABS knows rolling or skidding, not what size tire is doing either of those things. Suspension is independant for each axle and pays no attention to what the axle next to it is doing.FredW Thanks this. -
11R24.5 and 10.00R22 are the same size around, and can be ran side by side, or across from each other. Same with 11R22.5 and 10.00R20. You can not mix bias ply with radials, as the bias will blow out because the sidewall is much stiffer than a radial, and will not flex.

Hi,
Thanks for your input. You have confirmed my suspicions. I will keep looking for reasonably priced 11 R 24.5 tires. This rig is very old and has no ABS so that is not a factor but I am sure the other problems you describe would arise.

Fred, try looking for 24.5 used tires rather than caps. My tire guy said nobody caps 24.5's because they are mostly long haul and most of those guys buy virgin.

truckbiz's statement isn't true in NC,the tire dealers are trying to scrape up as many 11r 24.5 cases as they can find,as well as 255/70/22.5 cases. if you have talked to tire shops this year, then you would know the prices have went up 2-3x this year alone. i'm thinking of running Michelin caps on the rear of the spread to see if they are worth their money.
FredW Thanks this. -
oh yeah,i've ran 11r 24's on the rear and lo pro on the front of a spread. u must adjust the leveling valve to get proper stopping power from the front axle when empty.
FredW Thanks this.
