Arctic Fox, my call from Stevens recruiting came the day after I submitted the online application. I wasn't ready to commit that fast, so I'm going to stay in touch with her. According to her, the main factor in call-back is past employment history. Mine is a 27-year federal career, so I guess they like that.

Well, turns out to be my batteries, not my starter. But now my APU alternator is not charging properly, so tomorrow morning, into the AC shop for an alternator.
    then...hopefully, I'm out of here.
Gonna be a bad week. Only have 2100 miles in the bank.Hopefully get a quick 8-900 miles I can fill and flo by wednesday.

If you go to to the school in michigan, you will only take the test in Michigan, as you will have a valid CDL when you leave the school. Then you go to orientation at stevens, and at the end of the week you are on the road with a trainer. And then Stevens will pay you $25 per week for tuition reimbursement. And then you are not beholden to Stevens for the school if you and stevens are not a good fit.

Had a great week, 3572 miles, setting in laredo, dropped my load due in the am, which helps since I have 15 minutes available for Monday... Reset here in the great town of Laredo.

Had to get out of the TV room though, it only takes one loud mouth to ruin Movie watching.

    Rattlebunny Thanks this.

I hear you there. I can't count the number of times I was driven out of there by the same issue. :biggrin_25523:

Funny story for ya. Last time I was in the yard there in Laredo I showed up around one in the morning. I grabbed my gear and headed in for a shower. When I got out of my truck I saw what I thought was another driver's wallet lying in the dust ... there's so much of it there. I walked over towards it and was just about to reach down and pick it up when it moved. That's right, it moved. I turned on my maglite and discovered that it was really a very large tarantula.

I had about a half a second to react, because the #### thing started chasing me across the parking lot. Thing is, I'm not a small guy now ... but I was a lot larger then (nearly 400 lbs ... I've lost over 60 since) ... and I was running from this thing bellowing like a little girl. I'm man enough to admit that I am terrified of spiders (long story ... bad experience with a nest of Black Widows in Colorado as a kid).:biggrin_2554:

After a few yards it finally quits and slinks off in another direction. And I hear this cackling coming from the trailer / office. And sure enough it's my dumb and dumber partner ... AND my former trainer ... laughing their collective ###e$ off.

It is amazing how fast those spiders really are. And at night, when they're hunting, they can be quite aggressive. I know that they're not poisonous, but I watched a girl at a pet store get bitten by one a few years back and I'll be ###### if I'm gonna deal with that kind of pain.

Just thought you'd get a kick out of that sitting in Laredo. G'Nite from tarantula free Cape Cod, MA.

Well here I sit in Austin. Dropped my load in San Antonio this morning, picking up a load for Mississauga, ON. Swapping in Springfield, MO tonight for a load bound for Ontario, CA.
    Whoo hooo!
Rattlebunny...just pet them. They won't bite!

    Just for clarity-

When I get to school I will be taking the permit test and then an additional 5 test on the required chapters? Is the information on these test based only on the information given with each chapter or are they in a sense combined? Thanks :biggrin_2558:

I don't think they combine anything, though there may be general CMV related questions thrown in here and there. I never actually got to finish reading the whole manual before taking the tests, I took all 5 the first day and passed them all first try. Lucky me.

    Shiftylots and nascarchuck Thank this.

Thanks for taking the time. I was told by a current Stevens Student that you are only given enough time at the testing center to do one test per day.....two if you are really lucky. Did you get your cdl through Stevens? Thanks again!!
