For Regional and some OTR, In order to save cost/weight, would this be a good starter? It has a legal sleeper that is integrated into the cab and you can get up to 500 hp and your choice of tranny. Having slept for years in tiny coffin bunks on Navy destroyers, the size really wouldn't bother me. Just curious on your thoughts.

Up to 500 horsepower with what motor? Horsepower is a bit deceptive. The 6.7 Cummins you can get in Dodge pickups can crank out 500 horsepower. Doesn't mean it'll be workable for an OTR tractor-trailer application.
I wouldn't recommend it, personally. It's a truck designed for a specific niche, and OTR isn't that niche. Furthermore, how likely are you to find one suitable for OTR use on the used market?
If you want a starter truck, better to find a used truck built to be an OTR truck. -
Thanks for the reply. The more I thought about it, the more I realize that it would be unsuitable from a comfort standpoint as well. Maybe something like a Century with a 36" sleeper. Keep it short, light and aero for fuel savings.

I'm no expert on anything but I think displacement and torque are what really make an OTR engine.
I don't know what a M2-112 is but that makes me believe it isn't well suited for OTR. -
BigJohn it is Freightliner Business Class. Mostly used as a daycab but you can get them with a 24" bunk behind the seats.

AKA Toy Hauler I have seen the used as a straight truck (FedEx) and dump trucks but I dont know if it would be advisable pulling a freight trailer OTR.
