Hello everyone! I started driving for CRST in late march and my experience with CRST to say the least has been terrible. My weekly income is less than $250 on average. As soon as my contract is up here I plan on leaving and going to a solo company where hopefully I can earn more money. I live in north eastern Pennsylvania, and I've been considering Conway truckload, Crete, and heartland express. I've heard good and bad about all of the companies which makes it so difficult to make a decision. I'll have 8months OTR experience when my contract is up with no CSA violations (so far), no accidents (ever), a clean MVR, and all endorsements. I'm 22 years old and I just want do make some good money. If you were me who would you drive for? And I mean any company not just crete, Conway, or heartland.
Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

Since march earning $250 a week ?
-
Is that a $250 per week check after drawing $200 per week for expenses on the road?
-
No that's gross after CRST deductions for CDL school. I've been here 4 months and 20 days and have made just over 4500. Im a recent college graduate and between on the road living expenses and college loan payments I'm starving to death out here financially. I would leave CRST sooner but I can't afford the $5,000 to quit before my contract is up.

And some on here say a local job doesn't pay well! Anyway sorry to here you are having a rough go of it man. This is why I feel it is crucial to pay for schooling on your own, then you could just find a different company. So I guess you just stick it out for now and spend sometime making phone calls and doing some good research and find a company that suits your needs, it is a tough decision to make, most recruitors are full of crap, so try talking to muliple drivers from different companies and draw your own conclusions about said companies, a WH I go to weekly has alot of Heartland drivers coming in and I talk to them frequently, they say it is about the same as most, they all have there flaws, you jist have to find what works for you.
bigtimepeter Thanks this. -
What are the weekly school payments? Just so others have an idea what they might be getting into.

In 2009, at CRE, it was $55/wk. Outdated, I know, but I don't think it's changed much.

Just over 90. They take money out for the bus ticket to get you there, 150 a weekto stay there while ur getting "trained" and for your physical/drug screen. All said and done I owed just shy of$900.

Sorry for the completely unhelpful post on what CRE's payment was. I somehow misunderstood something and was thinking school payment in general. My bad.
I don't have an all-encompassing knowledge of companies, but it's been my understanding that Melton is a good place. A friend of mine went with them near the end of last year and had nothing but good things to say - and this guy complained about as much as anybody. After several months, he's found things to complain about (go figure) but he's not looking to go anywhere else.
By the way, Melton is flatbeds if you aren't opposed to that. Some folks don't want to pull flatbeds. -
If your home is up in PA, why not look at all the Oil/Gas companies up there?? I have heard good money and they are always looking for people???
