Crazymama : the idling issue really has me curious more than upset. I don't run New England much where many of the stricter laws are, but I haven't heard of any enforcement anywhere. Are there cops who actually HAVE written tix in summer or winter?
Crete uses opti-idle and I don't see how you can get more efficient than that. Its ironic that the laws are being done in the name of anti-pollution at a time when truck's deisel engines are the cleanest they have ever been.
I forget where, but I have read of anti-idling laws that are totally reasonsonable - targeting idling of parked, unoccupied trucks, targeting non-stop idling, and allowing temporary idling for driver comfort - all spelled out and nothing a driver could complain about - THOSE laws should be the ones uniformly adapted nationally, not the willy-nilly patchwork of ridiculously strict laws that simply aren't practical.

Spoke with recruiters from Crete and Mavrick today.
Crete sounds like a great company from everything the recruiter said. If your schooling is PDTI accredited then you can apply right out of the gate. If not, you can apply after you have 5 months under your belt.
Mavrick is sending me an information packet and application. So we will have to see what happens. -
It sounds like you guys are making the right moves when you at least look at a company like Crete. I don't know much about Maverick. I know of a guy who went to work there, and he told me he liked it until he fell off the edge of the world about 5 years ago. I assume they are good. I know Crete is good. I worked for those guys once, and I'd definitely go back.
Here's hoping you get on with one or the other. -
Training complete! Orientation Complete! First run from Arkansas to Washington State went very well. Made a wrong turn a time or two but all in all went very well. on my hometime now

Update : I was 100% wrong about Shaffer being reasonable in my re-hire.
I just got off the phone with them and they said that after talking to my Crete manager, I would be required, by SHAFFER, to go back and work that full week underpaid at the Illinois Walmart DC.
I told him I was applying for work in the SE fleet and by no means would accept that blackmail. So my only recourse is to challange the decision by writing to the owner, Dwayne Aklie. But, as with other things, if they are in the wrong as I think they are, then why would I want to fight for a job there. Goodbye Acklie companies. -
why not just wait til after sep 15th? its as good as gone, there are already werner trucks with wal-mart trailers all over the place. theyre just trying to get the loads moved until then from what i was told.
anyway, i hook up with my trainer friday, they wanted to get me out today, but the guy training me is in fort worth, and would have to be quite a bit illegal to make that haul.
ill update when i can. -
I can't stay out of a job waiting for Sterling to go away. Besides, it is evident my manager would find some other way to butt into my rehire. I've sent a personal letter to Duane Acklie complaining of his (my former manager's) actions.
Werner has been at Sterling alongside Crete, they share the operations office.
If you are Crete, don't let your trainer accept any load going anywhere near Sterling or that is where you will sit for a week or more. good luck - I've already got the green light from Averitt.bb.
