Well, remove filter and fill it with fuel.
No need to put another new one on.

Add fuel in the filter, don't need the new one, and give it a start.
Crank it for 5sec than rest for 30sec. Do it again.
DO NOT overdo the engine starter.

the starter should only be cranked for a max of 1 min or you risk overheating it. i would 1st try take filter off fill with diesel, before you crank over engine, loosen fuel line to injectors about 1/4 turn, follow small steel line that goes from fuel pump up to the head ( the one closest to the radiator) . crank engine over, when it starts loosen fuel line a bit more until deisel flows out and engine starts to run smoother, then do up fuel line and let engine finish sorting itself out..

Do what Aussie Dave says.. that will bleed any air out of your fuel system
