So it's 1am, and I'm lying in my sleeper thinking about how I'd like to tell the head of my company what a bunch of theives and liars they all are, and how they should be ashamed of themselves, and how these are the fruits of their little SLS Utah... and then all of a sudden I hear a crunch, look out the window and a trailer is backed into my sleeper's side.
I jump out and just stand there, memorizing the license plate, then I ran after the cab, yelling loud as it speeds off.

I'm wondering if I'll get CSA points. There were no witnesses, and no security cameras. I slid and fell, chasing after the guy in the dark, on this loose, shoddy pavement in the truck-stop parking lot.

I gave my co all the req info, called the police, filled out the report, took pictures... There is damage, and scratched paint but nothing big. It will drive fine.

I figure I had to report it, cause the co would probably try to blame the damages on me and take it out of my paycheck if I didnt.

I guess I'll get CSA points even though I was just lying in the sleeper. I was parked w/in the lines. The cop agreed I was not at fault.

Did I get CSA points for being in an accident? My co said I wont if it's not too expensive, but... they lie alot and cannot be trusted for nothing. They want to cover their butts, and I care nothing for those crooks and just want to cover mine.

I want to become an owner-op. Will this raise insurance rates considerably? I have little experience.

Did you receive ANY citation of ANY kind? If not, no points... that however does not mean that your company won't ##### you with a "Preventable", which goes on your company record. As far as I know, that will not effect your future unless you got a bunch of them... Good Luck

You won't get any points and nothing will be held against you. You have no control over what someone else does when you are parked properly. This is one reason you park where you are suppose to and avoid parking on ends of rows and other tight areas if possible. I wrote that before I seen your experience just now, so you already know that stuff. I left it for the newbies.

There is a large amount of chicken dung drivers out there that will hit you and run. It's a sad situation what is out there. It probably won't be your last time either. Did you get any truck info?

Your company can not decide if you get hit with CSA points. The only time you CAN get hit with CSA points is if an inspection is performed. Don't sweat it, it's not your fault.

I feel for you. I put a new bumper on my KW last fall. I had it 2 weeks before some a-hole backed into me and bent it, then fled.

The key is, were you parked in a "legal" spot? I understand you were in a truck stop but if you were parked illegally they your company could very well charge you with a preventable.

First of all, if you are on private property it is not an accident, it is an incident. The only way it could be listed as an accident on private property is if the other vehicle lost control on a public roadway which resulted in them entering the private property where they struck you. If you check the report the officer gave you, it should state that it is an incident report as opposed to an accident report.

Save a copy of the report in case you decide to switch jobs at some point in the future. Make duplicates of the pictures (if they are not digital) and keep a copy for yourself with the incident report.

My understanding of CSA is that only inspections by DOT officers, or citations issued by other law enforcement can result in a CSA scoring. Since neither driver was cited here, from my understanding it shouldn't show up.

We had one of our drivers parked at a Flying J.. Next to the scale like a moron.. He had his Right side mirrors taken out by a FFE trying to get by.. Because he parked illegaly he was given a preventable accident. :biggrin_2558: Moral of the story? Park legal and CYA.

points come from 2 places and only from 2 places, a dot inspection and an accident report. you don't need to get a ticket to get the points from either...

tickets not on a dot inspection (state police, county sheriff, city LEO) don't count if it's not on a dot inspection, so yes you CAN get a ticket from a dot officer and not get the points if he doesn't do an inspection.

a warning on a dot inspection has the same points as a ticket on a dot inspection.(a ticket you can fight a warning you can't)

csa points for an accident have NOTHING to do with who was at fault. the points (i don't agree with it and ooida is trying to get that changed) are becauce you were INVOLVED in an accident. you can be stopped at a light and get rearended and you will get the points..! the LEO did do an accident report not an incident report.

so first it's a non-perventable no big deal

as to the csa points MAYBE and no the company has no say so about it.. but if you do get them you can fight it saying you were not in control of the truck at the time. remember you were parked and in bed at the time
