I agree with swaan, if you feel insecurity then you can keep a spare filter with you. It may be helpful in emergency.

dont know the pressure how do i check that????thanks mike
-
U need specific tool/pressure gauge with correct fitting. But u can check if u have a air leak, look at the fuel pump, where the large inlet fuel line joins onto the pump, just above that there is a small 90 degree elbow fitting, u need to undo the hose that joins onto it (plug up that hose so no fuel can leak out) then put a clear plastic tube onto the 90 degree elbow and place the other end into a clear jar, start engine and watch as the fuel runs into jar, if the fuel look milky or u can see air bubbles , then u have a air leak somewhere. This is all from memory , but i think it is correct, will do some reading and get back to u. to confirm. just had a quick read, and yes that is correct. good luck.

if you look on the side of the fuel pump on driver side of engine, there is a fitting right next to the shut of solenoid, does take a special fitting to connect to it, its called "compucheck fitting". the male side is mounted on the pump and you need the female to connect to it, fuel pressure should be about 120 at idle and 145 at high idle/driving so you may want to use a guage that reads up to 200psi. there could be two fittings on the pump so you need the one thats mounted up higher then the other, the other fitting should be mounted on the fuel filter head and it will read restriction not pressure cuase its on the suction side of the pump, if you google compucheck fitting you can see some pics of what your looking for, Good luck.

ok guys i took the lines loss and let what i thought wa air out and now for a few days it was fine...then it started again so i think its the filter cause i took the filter off and drained all the fuel and refilled it..but now it does it a little more so im pullin the filter and replace it with a new 1 to see how that works.. if that dont stop it ill take it to the shop and press. test it..thanks mike

Not all filters are created equal and even if they were, you still could have a bad filter.
Its funny how everyone replying as if you have some major issue when you have stated that it only started to have an issue AFTER you "Incorrectly" installed this filter.
One thing that you nor anyone address was the little rubber washer... Did you remove the old one first and or did you replace it ?
I ask this because those washers as not the same thickness depending on the brand filter.
My suggestion, buy a new filter, this time fill it with fuel and don't forget to replace the little rubber washer that goes around the threads... this keeps you from sucking air and dirty fuel.
If the problem persists, then you might have damaged a injector... because particles, water and air is an injector's worse enemy. Personally I doubt that though. -
yea i replaced the washer..im hoping for a bad filter ...thanks mike
also could /would it do this if a injector is loss???? -
I had an issue like your talking about a couple times and the truck would just run rough... it was a bad filter or the filter wasn't sealing properly and it was sucking air.

well got the filter changed and seems to be worst then before...been on vac. with the wife so just getting back to work...any other ideas on what it may be thats causeing this?????seems to only do it about or after 1500 in the high side of gears.....also sounds like its in the muffler could it be just the muffler gone bad ????i know when i mash the pedal with the window down i can hear something rattle in the muffler and plan to change it out here in a few days...but i cannt see why the muffler would make a poping sound ....could it be air in the pump??? how could i get that out??? i did take the line loss when the truck was running to get air out the filter like was stated in the above post..should i take the line loss and let it run for a few more sec. then i did ???i only took it loss for about 2 sec. with a the fuel shooting out of it ...thanks mike

The muffler if rusted bad can cause a pop type of sound. Have u inspected the fuel lines for leaks? Sometimes the inlet hose or return hose, from the pump area can crack due to age. I'm about to change my hoses cause the return line has a small crack/hole . P.s might be time to take it to a shop, that pop noise could be various things, like a sticking valve, at least u will find out what's going on. Good luck.
