Last company I drove for bought new 386 Petes in 2008 with the Cat and DPF. Average was about 4.5 - 5.0 MPG, one could never get over 3.75 on a very good day. Cat even put a complete new expermental engine in that one. Those trucks were constantly in the shop, costing down time on extremely time sensitive coast to coast freight.

They ended up selling those trucks at a huge loss after they almost bankrupted the company. They bought some used 2006 386 Petes without the DPF, and had good service and decent fuel mileage from them.

But, they still had quite a few 2004-2005 IH and Freightliners with Acerts that all had from 1.3 to 1.5 million miles running everyday that seldom gave any trouble. The older pre-emission trucks they had before the '04 and '05 models gave even less trouble and got better fuel mileage. Everytime they improved the fleet, their troubles and expenses increased.

No problem. Still a Hell of a long way. Might get with Working Class Patriot. He bought new Pete not long ago. Think he went w/Cummins but he can tell you the good/bad.

So you just drive it until it breaks?

Ever consider new bearings and other parts before it breaks?

um........I didn't read anywhere where he it came apart. Blown up can mean a lot of things, some of which are not related to bearings. I suppose someone could put new liners in every year to "prevent" an issue.:biggrin_2554:

    Seems like 1,234,725.45 miles.

Seems pretty good!!! Hope you find something that gives you the same reliability.
