A good battery will last 6-7 years. More if you are using them in warmer climates as an engine wont require as many amps to start.

The solar panel is an excellent idea if you dont have an apu. Get the bendable variety and it will conform to the skin of your truck.

I've seen a truck that HAD to have eight batteries. Was a V16 with two starters!

I had the same problem, a set of batteries a year, so I got the yellow top optimas, oct 08, been overly happy ever since. Been running a fridge, inverter, radio, "mood" lights for 24 hrs since they were put in, so far so good. oh and it sits from friday eve to monday morning.

I have $500 in the solar panels and installed it myself. The solar panels put out around 15 amps at 18 volts under full sun that is perfect for maitaining batteries. I do use a Morning Star Charge controller to insure there is no over charging.

Trickle charging is great for maintaining batteries.
