I often see mid roof tractors pulling refer or dry box on the road. Anyone with mid roof or even flat top can give some info in terms of fuel mileage? The reason I am asking is that I am consedering buying a mid roof tractor so that I can put a roof top r/v ac. any info is highly appreciated.

Most the guys i worked with had stretched out W9's and Pete's and only had them for the stlye and looks. That being said, here was my experiences...

I ran a FLAT-TOP 1999 FLD120 with a S-60 and 10spd/3.90 rears. I pulled a 13'6" van and was able to maintain about a 7mpg average. This was mainly to do with driving habits, engine and speed tho. I cruised at 60mph and never tried to race anywhere. It will all determine on the engine and set-up mainly.

Pulling a reefer will net you better MPG than a van since you have the refridgeration unit helping cut the wind on the front of the trailer.

Maverick has changed out their ENTIRE fleet in the last month and they have a good 1,200 trucks sitting in N. Little Rock for sale. I would highly look into one of them as they are spec'd for good MPG and descent trucks, tho I believe most are automatics now. But on the plus side, I did see several sitting there with roof-top a/c units already on them :)

I have only gotten midroofs, but they also had the air dam on top. A RV style AC unit fits nicely on the roof and is protected by the air dam. Also, a mid roof is easier to heat and cool. And, at least in my neck of the woods, a midroof is easier to sell. Not too many bulk haulers, grain haulers, etc want a high rise condo. Kinda hard to get them in some grain elevators. All they have to do is pull the air dam off and go for it. When ever I have shopped for a truck, I just avoid the condos.
