Just because everyone thinks you're ideas are bad, doesn't mean that you're wrong. I know I'm not :biggrin_2559:

I do deep knee bends as part of my morning routine... That is becuase the last time I did the PWS my legs were screaming at me. By the time I got back to the terminal in Gary, and got in my truck, I wasn't sure I was going to be able to run the clutch, and I had to take a driving test. I was thankful that the driving was short, we made a run around the block, and that was it. That was last spring after a hernia surgery.

Another day is in the books! Man I am tired today. I got sucked into the movie Blow last night and didn't get to bed until midnight. Too late for a 5am wakeup! I was still the first student at school again. I usually am. lol Hurry up and wait! I went down to the range and practiced my pre-trip for the cdl test. I went through it all without the list and only missed one thing. Woohoo! I am ready for it!

We practice backing for a while this morning and I am getting better each day. We hit the road and both myself and the other guy in the truck had really good runs. He actually went first and I was like dam, I better do well or I will look bad. lol I am naturally competitive. lol I did well too thankfully and we headed off to lunch.
I spent 30 minutes on hold with nys higher education, during lunchtime, setting up an auto payment for my student loans. They finally found me! LOL You think they would be eager to answer and get my money! lol

After lunch we hit the roads for some shifting practice going up and down hills. We both did o.k. Not great but not bad either. Afterward hit class for trip planning. Fun stuff. I find it fun. Maybe I am weird. LOL
Oh well, I am in my room. I want to get my homework done and go to be early. See ya later all!

Seems we are on about the same schedule. You'll see lots of 0500 wake ups out here. Sounds like you are getting it locked down. You'll be good to go I'm sure.
trip planning is important, but sometimes you just go and it will shake out for you. I could waste and do waste a ton of time trying to plan. So I plan the basics with the routing they give us ans check the route vs. Restricted routes and weight limits. Then hit it. You'll find it starts coming easy because you do see some of the same places.

Trip planning is very important, if you don't know when you can be somewhere you are in trouble... It seems really hard to start, but as you do it, and start to get used to the routes that we run, it will get easier, and burn up less time. Never commit to something that you are not sure you can do. Do not let them set you up to fail, most of the time our trips have plenty of time... Sometimes you do get a tight delivery or pick-up, be sure that you can do it before you commit. If you do commit and then realize that it cannot be done, let your FM or night dispatch know asap, the sooner they know there is a problem, the more options they have to fix it. If you call your FM 15 minutes before you are supposed to deliver, and you are still 60 miles away, there is not much they can do at that point. Then you end up with a service failure and Roehl ends up with a black eye... The better you get a trip planning the better you will be at utilizing your time, and then you will be able to run more miles...

If there is a good amount of early am starts it will be great for me. That is good to hear. Every since I got into my forties I get up at the crack of dawn. lol I just can't sleep in anymore, even when on vacation. It pisses me off sometimes. lol I got into school this morning at like 20 minutes after 6. I don't know who it was but someone said to me it is a good trait to have in this business. lol. That is why I always thought of trucking as a career. I know how to manage myself fairly well. I just am not good with managing others lol. I managed a conveinence store for a while and I HATED it! I'll never forget the look on my managers face when I told him that. LOL

I used to own a bar named Shots, hence my name, lol. I used to walk around saying "you are all fired" everyday. lol I even fired my own roomate, who bartended for me, TWICE for getting too drunk on the job. lol I always said I would like to do something for a career where I only had to manage myself for the most part. Hopefully this will suffice. lol.

Well today was pretty cool. After practicing backing in the cdl test area, we hit the road. Had a great run in the morining. I was on every shift and Joe complimented me a few times during and after my run. My co-student did well too. he is really starting to get better. I am happy for him. I really thought he was going home but it looks like his "talking to" really helped motivate him to pick it up.

This afternoon we got to learn a little skip shifting and jake brake usage. The afternoon runs weren't as flawless as the morning for us, but nothing horrible, just a few gear grinds from myself and the other guy. That and the skip shifting screwed me into going from 4th to 6 a few times. I told Joe at this point in my life that when I learn something new, that something has to get out of my mind to make room. lol.

Tonight's homework was the open book test on the DRG. Does anyone ever fail this? LOL. I can see how trip planning will get easier as we go. I always wanted to know what all that crap on a map was for. lol. Never really needed to use one. They also gave us the FMCSR book today. I have a new bathroom reading book. LOL anyone have a law degree to help out decifering some of it. lol

Oh well, time to get ready for bed. Tomorrow we practice backing for a few hours in the morning. They said we are getting let loose a little early also. Woohoo. Vacation! lol Saturday is also backing practice. I can't believe week two is just about finished. Goodnight all!

you'll probably sleep well from all that LOL'ing. Lots of good information, I wish they'd allow us that kind of time for orientation at my company. We hire "experienced" drivers, turns out they know nothing about trip planning, HOS, FMCSA, CSA, and on and on and on......
