i just heard through the grape vine that a former co worker of mine is leasing through triple crown and bringing home like 1800 week.
Is he fibbing or is this reasonable?

Is that leasing as in, he owns the truck and he leases it to the company? Or are we talking lease/purchase? Are we talking containers?
What does "bringing home," mean? If this is his check after fuel and no other costs, then yes it is real and I wouldn't run for that. Does it include deductions for payment or replacement if he has no payment? What about a repair, maintenance and tire escrow? Does it cover license, permits and fuel tax? We can be certain it doesn't cover Income Taxes and Social Security.
Since fuel is about 34% of operating cost, this means he is grossing about $2,727 per month or $141,818 annually. If he runs 100,000 miles a year he is making about 1.42 CPM. That's decent pay compared to a mileage lease, but not all that great.
Let's look at cost of operation. We have Fuel at 34%, Repairs, Maintenance and Tires at 6%, Miscellaneous at 1%, Payment or Replacement at 6%, Insurance, License and Fuel Tax at 3% and Income Taxes and Social Security at 8%. When you figure a gross of $2,727 per week less 58% in costs, you have a true net of $1,112 per week.
So it is decent money but not what I want to make with my own truck. I want to make that in wages and at least another $600 a week for Return on Investment and Profit. I do all my cost of operation calculations based on a per mile cost. Since we don't know his miles I took the percentages that my spreadsheet provides to make a comparison.
Even if he is paying or saving for all of the above costs of operation and getting $1,800 from his settlement, he should be putting at least $400 of that back for Taxes and Social Security leaving $1,400 which would be pretty good. -
i know a guy that had 2 trucks working out of bethlehem ....sold the one and his kid ran the other until he sold it .... hardly made enough money to get by

I worked for them out of their Chicago terminal and did well. I was home every night and off weekends. Loads are always heavy and always a live load/unload but you start and end at the same plce... their rail yard.
BigJohn54 Thanks this. -
sorry i didnt clarify, he leases his truck but runs for them and he said bring home pay

I know a lot of guys that have tried them over the years out of fort Wayne, In. Most of the trucks leased on are beat up and old. probably paid off, because to do not know many that stay there very long

I had never heard of (or paid attention) them until a couple weeks ago when I started adverstising for O/O's. I am hearing numbers all over the place but never really care what some guy is telling me he is making. If he is calling me it is likely because he is not happy. I can say that not one of them would pass my min. qualifications. That tells me they hire a lot of guys in the mid to bottom tier of safety.

from my 20 years expirience tcs does a pretty thorough qualification process.strict criteria i felt.but sometimes a bad seed gets thru.in most cases i see when a driver gets fired or get his way he bashes the company that let him go or had a dispute with.if all the drivers out here were actually the drivers they think they are.they wouldnt always be looking.bad business men bad drivers usually is the complainers.
