Finaly the big three truck stops are adding more fitness centers nationwide. Not exactly sure how they doing this but I hope this works, 10 hours takes a long time on elogs figure I could eat up an hour working out inside a gym. Yes I know you can do this outside in the parking lot but seriously have you seen how some of you drive around parking lots.

T/A has been doing this for a while

All T/A along I-40 are supposed to have workout rooms, and all T/A along I-95 are supposed to have maps of walking paths/areas nearby. Not sure if it applies to Petro too...

But I honestly don't think it's a good business decision. I've never seen anyone in a workout room, nor have I ever seen anyone order one of the healthy choice things off the menu.

I applaud them for making healthy choices easier for us, and I take advantage of them, but a 1400 calorie Chicken Fried Steak with white gravy and fries is always gonna be more popular than the chicken wrap.

I unfortunately dont run the i40 corridor anymore and avoid I95 as much as possible. Where I run these rooms are non exsistent I think as more come available and can be used on more a regular routine you might see more drivers use them. I have regular stops for the most part and would love a gym to workout at every other day. I know the menu options are horrible but i think you can counter that by having healthier snacks in the truck. Im trying its a work in progress but mentally for me with the option to workout will help me diet i think but will see.

I heard about it on the radio, but you know, that the good drivers will take care of the areas, but there are other drivers that will trash the workout areas and steal the free weights and sell them for scrap.

I've only ever been in one of these, that was at the Bordentown, NJ Petro. It was a small room with a bicycle and an elliptical machine and a TV. It's better than nothing, certainly, but they are nothing fancy. IIRC, there was a weight bench there, too, but you'd have to bring your own weights because they didn't provide them.

The walking paths are kinda silly- who needs a map to tell them where to walk? I thought maybe it'd be a safe route- say where there are sidewalks or a wide shoulder, but I've seen the maps where it just sends you down a state highway with no shoulder or sidewalk, so I was wrong on that one. Google Earth will get you the best walking path if that's your thing.

I'd be all about this. One of the major reservations I've had about this career choice is the inherent lack of activity. I'm used to going to the gym 3 or 4 times a week but that ain't happening if I'm out in anywheresville USA.

This could literally save lives. If all truckers had regular access to facilities like this, with decent showers and good food choices, their lives would be totally different.

I like hitting the gym, too. I go two - three times per week and do the weights and perhaps 20 minutes cardio. If I graduate and if I get my solo truck I will buy a few 10, 15 lbs dumbbells. While 10 and 15 lbs are not much weight you can get a great workout of you do enough slow and hold repetitions.

I never thought 7 lbs was heavy until I was in boot camp. I had so many demerits I was always standing at the end of my rack at the end of the day holding my piece (rifle) in my hands with my arms extended for prolong periods of time. For me that was a workout.

Interesting. Truck stops are adding work out facilities, yet they are putting in fast food joints instead of decent restaurants. Bring back the decent restaurants too, and it would be even better for the drivers.
