Thanks for the heads up EB, I'll definitely keep that in mind ;?D

By the way, uh what's a preset - is that like a preset time to deliver?

Mind my asking about how many hours you average driving per week (especially the second half of the year)?

Also how do you like hauling reefers? You sound like you're enjoying it but just thought I'd ask. Thanks again for the insight and glad to hear Central's treating you good!

"Preset is the term that they use for ummmm, load to be picked up....like the load you are doing next....IDK if it is an industry term but thats what they ise for 'next load'

Hours are difficult to judge, I do often run out of hours, and have to move carefully to get hours back to use. Typically average 60mph in 65+mph states... Even averaged 66mph on an 11hr day, I was light enough not to slow down up hills and heavy enough to gain speed on the way down.

Reefers are good, except for the occasional PITA trying to get the trailer washed out. ALWAYS show up at shippers with atleast 3/4 tank of reefer fuel, even though load info says "live load" many times they are drop and hook, and if it is you may have to go look for fuel.

One pointer to save some time legally, if you are leaving a truck stop it is 100% legal to log 0653 as 0700 and leave at 0653 to save you the time it takes to get out of TS and onto expressway....same works when you stop, if you stop at 0906 it is perfectly legal to log 0900, as you have to log in 15min increments, so you can split by 7.5min.

Couple other things...they seemed not to tell some this before training....

    1. You need a pillow and sleeping bag, and should bring either a fitted or flat sheet for bunk.

    2. One weeks worth of cloths....7-10 t-shirts, undergarments, and socks....and like 5-7 pair of pants or shorts, you can usually wear pants 2 days.

    3. GLOVES FOR FUELING AND HOOKING TRAILER.

    4. Waterproof work boots.

Hey EB, thanks for that info - got a question about the boots. Been wondering what type or brand of boot is best for this job? Appreciate your OP on what kind I should buy!

HEY CREWS, hows training going (or are you done already)? Love to hear any details and how you like driving the Volvos? I read that they also run Freightliners and was wondering if you get a choice when it comes to the truck you're assigned?

I THINK, they are making a reference to not sign a lease contract with the company. If you are new to the business some companies will try to sugarcoat the seriousness of entering into a contract to lease or buy a truck from them. They will try to get you to sign on to lease a truck (and then contract it back to them) because that makes you a contract driver and saves THEM money!
If your are new, I would suggest it is always better to learn the ropes as a company driver. If you are new to the business you have a lot to learn, maybe several years of running someone else's truck as a company driver, before you can have a true grasp of the costs of running your own rig.
Don't make the mistake of leasing in your first job.

So stop 20 times a day and drive an extra 5 hours a day! LOL!
