Bad Employment History and the New Driver??

    Hi All

    It looks like trucking companies want 10 years of employment history. The last few years i have been takin care of my ailing mom who died on may 20th. Previous to that my employment history is pretty sketchy. I applied to a few of the bad companies to test the market. I was rejected by Arrow, Warner, Crst. One of the recruiters at the local CDL License Mill(school) told me to have my friends and neighbors write reference letters substantiating that i was a care giver. It was successful. I got prehire letters from some other crappy companies like Hogan, Star, and Transam. However, these companies want me to have these letters Notaried. These people would have to go way out of their way to have this done. All these letters include their telephone number. I think this has gone way too far. All they have to do is call them. The problem is i dont want to work with any of these companies. They all seem to have terrible reviews here and other sites. I was wondering if I waited till there is a transportation hiring fair in my town and applied in person, would they cut me some slack? Would I be better off applying for Class B driving jobs? Do they have to verify 10 year employment history for B jobs?? Any other ideas??

    OH, I just wanted a regional type job where i could be home on weekends and hopefully some during the week. I think this might be kinda hard for any new driver. But, when u consider my weak employment record would probably make it even harder for me. Hmmm?

    B truck jobs, same background checks, job history ect. Still DOT regulated. Having the gaps in employment statements notarized is the only way around it, as far as I know. Before my hire, I was laid off for 6 months, about two of which was in school. I still had to account for the other four.

    Best of luck to you! Taking care of your Mom, in my opinion is outstanding. You just dont see that much anymore!

    Stay positive. Something will work out for you. Trucking companies have to follow federal law about verifying employment history. Probably nothing around gettting those references notorized. I am sorry to hear of your mother's passing. She was lucky to have a son like you.

    Its just paperwork. Everyone has to do it.

    Start building the muscle mass around your cruchy knees (bicycling is excellent leg workout (hint - never stop peddling except around sharp corners), air cooled, and easy on your joints). You are going to be working soon! Good luck :biggrin_25519:
