I went 6 yrs without one, then my co-workers whined that I was anti-social, so I put one in the new truck, unfortunately I seem to eat antennas (trees, ice storm, freezing fog). Now I have one, don't have any antennas attached, maybe someday.

I keep mine on all the time, turned down to where I can just hear if someone says anything useful unless I pass another rack to b.s. With and swap bear reports and what the coops are doing, otherwise it's pointless to ask most freight haulers what's goin on cuz if one actually does answer it's usually a lie...

Even if one doesn't really use it for #### chat, it is a wise thing to have at least a low end cb hooked up and functional. Just to check and see if a problem around a construction zone, maybe a shipper/receiver need, etc. Heck, a decent radio like the Cobra 18 and a working antenna will not even cost a hundred bucks. And it will last a long time. Just in the last week and a half, I have avoided major backups and delays near construction because of accidents that happened. Heard about them, made a quick route change, and no delay. I hardly ever chat on the thing either. But it is a good tool to have. I really could care less where the bears are or if a scale is open, so for that it, having a cb isn't that important.

i use mine all the time, they are a great tool, like one time not very long ago a bag of golf clubs in the driving lane, heard a couple trucks call it out i move to the hammer lane as im aprotching the mile marker, the truck infront of me stays in the driving lane come up on the clubs he violently swerves to miss them where i just strolled on around.

You don't have to shell out big bux just do it right. For now I've got a little Cobra 19 its older than the trucks its been in but good for a mile or 2 of talk about twice that just listening. One day ill graduate to a nicer one, an older 25/29 or nicer if I find a steal..I mean deal. :biggrin_25524: I do have a Static which I've never heard of that gets 1000% better reception. there's a TS roughly 50 miles away and I can hear their breakfast and lunch specials. Lol

yep, that just about sums up my feeings on it anymore..

I have found the other milk haulers in the areas we run the most will still answer the radio, wave on the way by, and offer help quick if you need it....the freight monkeys not so much.. :smt102

Stupid question=stupid answer I know but does who you drive for have anything to do with others talking if they know where you sit? Why I ask while at TMC I was talking all the time then went to Schneider and it was like pulling teeth.

Yeah it does I really don't have an answer why either....

It depends on the companies reputation that you drive for I'm thinking, are they a known bottom feeder that runs things over and knocks hoods off other trucks or a company that is well respected ??

I'll be the first to admit my patience ran out along time ago with the likes of Swift, Werner, Useless Express, etc
