Hi, my name is Doug and my nickname is Doc and I ride a Can Am Spyder.

I have joined this site as I have decided to join the ranks of thousands of men and women that make their living driving. As a Certified Logistics Technician, I know how vital the transportation link is to our economy.

I have also decided that as I near Social Security age, this will be my last career change. I spent 23 years in the U.S. Army, 10 years teaching, and 4 years working for Defense Contractors so I expect about another 10 years working in the trucking industry then I can slow down a bit but not likely.

I had to come back last year from Kuwait to care for my father who passed in November and have been looking for work since. Going back overseas is not an option now and frankly, I don't want to leave U.S. soil again except to visit my wife's family in the Philippines every now and then.

I was used to working 12+ hour days, seven days a week with heat (sometimes 135 in the shade), sand, dust, and pollution from 5 refineries close to the facility I worked in. I with a company supporting the MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicle program. Small price to pay as we were working on a vehicle that saved many lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. The cab of a Peterbuilt will be like a room in the Hilton for me, and, not spending hours in line at security check points trying to get to work.

Anyway, I look forward to participating on this site and learning all I can from some very knowledgeable folks out there.

    So Insha'Allah "God Willing".

Hi, Doc. Welcome to TTR and thanks for your service. Good luck on your career change.

(By the way, it's Peterbilt - no 'u' in it. We don't usually care about spellin' around here, but you'll catch plenty of hell if you make that mistake on a trucker's forum. LOL)

Thanks ya'all. I'll remember to leave the "U" out next time. Got a call from Katrina from Stevens Transport today. When the VA gets my knee fixed in a few weeks, I'm going to start the Stevens Academy. I can't wait to get on the road.

    Thanks for the welcome.

    Doc
