I drove for an O/O back in the 70s and remember what we got for tire mileage.

So fast forward 34 years. How long are tires lasting now? Drivers? Steers?

    Thanks,

I averaged 500k on my last set of Bridgestone M726's and when I traded them in, they still had 4/32-5/32 left. I got a set of M726EL now but I also run empty one way and only 4,500k the other so hopefully I'll get 700k on these???

As for steers, I've used Bridgestone R280 and got 300k. I switched to goodyears and lasted 175k and started cupping. I got a set of Chinese brand on the front now. 115k and they look like new, very minimal wear and were only $275 each.

SHC thats some great tire wear, I'm lucky to get 350,000 on my drives and maybe 125 to 150,000 on the steers. I remember in the early 70's going over 100,000 on a set of Union 76 Super Trucker II steer tires which was unheard of at that time. Some things have gotten better over the years.

Presently have 336,000 on both steers and drives. Still lots of tread left. I'd guess (without measuring), I'm about 50%.

Yes, but you also have to remember that on the first set I ran 50% empty. Loaded gross there and empty back to the terminal. But my experience and what I have seen/heard is that Bridgestone is by far the best. That's my personal opinion, but if you ask others who have had them, they usually agree.

The key to good tire wear is regular 3 axle alignments (I do them twice a year) and always keep up on pressures. I stick mine every morning.

    puncher Thanks this.

    Driving slow is another key.

I got 420,000 out of my last set of Bridgestone M720's. Average payload just under 35,000#. All north of I40 from I77 to I25 operating area. Had 4-5/32 on them. They were starting to be a hydroplaning problem in the rain so took them off.

Are those recapped? Or is this mileage from new?

Mine are all virgin "new" tires and rates. I refuse to run recaps, especially since I run Souteast Texas every week.

500,000 miles on a set of new tires no recaps???

    Price makes sense now.

    Bridgestone Goodyear Michelin

    Any real difference except price?
