I'll play odd man out. I like the team thing. Of course with this CPAP thing i sleep like a stone. :biggrin_25518: Even slept through an incredible accident. We were not involved but a car that passed us at over 100mph lost control about 20 miles ahead of us. All 5 ejected and died.

We drive 10 on 10 off. We try and shower every 30 hours. Normally we get to the 90 hours before the appointment so we shower then.

Of course my trainer has a memory foam mattress so it is sweet to sleep while he is driving.

the hardest part of the team thing for me is refilling the diet dew bottle after my kidneys are done with it. Haven't missed yet but dang that opening is small and the roads are bumpy :biggrin_25524:

Just a quick update on my status. My new trainer is great and learning a lot from him. Both on the driving and business side of this industry. He definitely has a good handle on the business side and I am a sponge for the info he spits out. We left SpringMo Monday headed to Jacksonville Florida. We had some brake issues (S-cam seized up, the heat cracked the brake linings, melted the ABS sensor, and had the tire hot enough to catch fire). Apparently Freightliner didnt put grease fittings for the S-cam on this model truck (2009 and newer) and the S-cams are only good for 100,000 miles (guess they were going to tell everyone later); well this truck has over 450,000 miles. Well we got repaired (new brake lining, ABS sensor, AND new grease fittings added to prevent the problem. So if u hear constant squealing coming from your wheel and road assist keeps saying adjust the slack adjuster, get your S-cam checked out. We made it to Florida eventually, got unloaded and deadheaded to Atlanta to pick up a candy load headed to Colorado. My plan was for me to test out this weekend but we dont deliver until Monday evening sooooo.......guess testing wont be happening this weekend. Just have to suck it up and take the extra week of instruction - hell, it wont hurt and can only help at this point. Be safe everyone.

Another lesson learned. Atleast you found out NOW instead of when you get your own truck. Be safe out there

    Dennis the Menace Thanks this.

Well sitting in a truck stop in Jersey right now, right next to Philly.

Got to see the Eagles stadium which made me all giddy like a school girl. Haven't been back to Philly in a couple of years (i'm originally from Philly before we moved to Ohio).

Driving has been going well. I pulled a 12 hour night shift much to my trainers amazement the other night and then did a couple 10-12s the past few days during the day. We have been kind of alternating night/day shift every week or so. Since neither of us care for the awkwardness of trying to sleep during the day.

Saw my first fatality accident. An SUV blew a tire and rolled bout half a mile in front of us and ejected a 12 year old boy (no seat belt), he died at the scene. The death in general has been in my mind the past few days, just found out today it was a kid. It's a pretty sad thing to overcome, shouldn't lose people so young.

Besides that, we've been doing ok. Got a nice oil leak going on but we're going to just push with it for now and get it fixed when we stop at SpringMO for home time. Had a few other things fixed here though, air leak and our a/c. Now probably staying the night then leaving tomorrow. Positive note, I finally defeated Solitaire on the Quacomm!

    Stay safe drivers.

The Challenger and zebcohobo Thank this.

The qualcomm has solitare? lol Why was this not covered in orientation?

Sorry bout the wreck... Seen a few bad uns while Ive been out. Bein a firefighter though, I learned to not let it get to me. Seen too much, if you let it get to you, you wont make it long. Sad reality

This is the second young person I have read about in as many days that could still be among us if the parents had just insisted on seat-belts. I know we get into headbutt arguments with our kids. But that is one battle I will not lose. It makes my heart hurt for the parents, but I'm also pi**ed as hell at them. No one should have to bury their child. And it takes less than 2 seconds to make that thing click. :biggrin_25510:

Seebs, I hope that it gets easier for you to handle. The fact that it is troubling you proves you are a decent human being. The day it stops troubling you? Worry.

Oh. ####. Sorry, I thought that was my soapbox. I'll get down now.

Well got my first experience of a real big downgrade. (7%)

Oh and it was pouring rain.

    Oh and it was foggy.

    Oh and it was night.

Oh and it was stop and go traffic.

But all and all it wasn't too bad. Little nerve racking trying to slow down with minimal jake use and the whole not killing us. But I did alright.

We got dispatched to Georgia right after the whole tropical storm thing so I got to deal with a whole lot of pouring rain and while it was a huge pita, it wasn't bad and was good experience as a whole.

I will say though, Georgia driver's can't drive worth ####. I saw more accidents in Georgia then I've seen since I started trucking.

Got to see the Nascar trucks running up I-85 after they left Atlanta Motor speed way, that was cool. Though they do drive like complete ######## and we got cut off by them quite a few times. Also saw some of the actual drivers/crews pass by us in the 'unmarked' RV buses.

We called the dui line on a guy who was drinking a beer while driving (he actually downed it and started a new one out of the case in his back as we were calling). So that was our saintly move for the day.

Sitting at a receiver in North Carolina right now. Getting routed up towards Ohio after as I finally get my home time. Excited for a chance to relax and see my family and friends.

All and all. I've been enjoying my experience and my training, I've learned some new things and polished older things. Only thing I'm not really confident in is backing, still need some practice there.

And I am a tad worried about winter as I will probably be solo right before winter hits.
