So, I'm wondering if anyone knows of high quality used commercial truck bone yards (junk yards). I'm looking to change my rear diff gears and thought it might be cheaper and easier to just replace the entire axles.
I currently have RT40-145P axles with 3.58 gearing. I'm looking to get a better highway gear that drops the engine RPMs. I'm prolly looking at 3.21s to 3.01s

I doubt you will find that type of gearing in bone yards unless they install them for you. It will take a lot of engine to pull those gears and by your other post speaking of your cummins, well they need rpms to make power and don't like to be lugged down. Have you considered the cost of all of these changes and the little potential benefit?

Watseka Illinois. Corner of US 24 and Il 1. Can't remember what it's called, but should be in yellow pages.

DONT do it. My boss thought it would be a great idea
to put in a 2.92 gear in my 08 Kw t660 and yes it does drop the RPM down to about 1190 in 10th at 65. but I MPG went down because im always in 9th gear because it cant pull any type of incline
I urge you to reconsider changing your gear
As I hate it -
Tune your engine instead. Those gears will be trouble. I don't know with out figuring it but I can't imagine higher than 3.30. You will get a lot more bang for your buck by looking at the engine.
aggie1978 Thanks this. -
i'd get a double overdrive tranny first

I'm looking to reduce my RPMs while cruising at 75mph. Currently, I churn 1700rpm at that speed.
And yes, I know about the engine. It's currently set at 1450 ft/lbs of torque. I gotta do something about the tranny b4 I can get the engine turned up. -
call richard kerns in ellenwood, ga.
