If my prepass beeps green and the sign says pull truck in to weigh station-which do I follow??
sometimes it does opposite and beeps red but sign says ok to bypass.
I always scale my loads and know I am legal but need to know which I am to follow by law

    I would follow the prepass.

The road sensor may not have triggered to the prepass.

follow the pre-pass unless you are in Ohio and have hazmat then always enter the scale if open

I had it happen once in the 15 months I had PrePass, a closed scale and PrePass said stop.

The signage will tell you what to do in every case except the one above. In some states hazardous materials loads must stop at open scales no matter what Prepass says.

Other states allow some leeway, but for normal, non permit and non hazmat loads, green light means you don't have to go into the scale.

Some states are set up to bypass non Prepass trucks as well if they are light enough that the highway sensors show that.

As everyone has said, follow the PrePass signal unless you are hauling HazMat.

    PrePass Bypass Restrictions

About 3/4 down the first page

Also, there is an exception to Ohio for pulling in with Haz-Mat. I don't haul Haz-Mat so the info in there about the licenses makes no sense to me.

LA likes to bust drivers on this. They will have highway signs that say ok to bypass, but the prepass will go red. If you do not stop they will pull you over and ticket for passing the scale.
They got ALLOT of money for this last year.

Nebraska has these setups, signs and prepass. Per a trooper I talked to to make sure when I was at the North Platte scale one day, he said to follow the prepass. Only time to pull in is if prepass goes red or doesn't go off at all and the sign directs to go in.

If you have a placarded load you have to pull into the scale in
OH, AR, NV and AZ regardless what your Prepass does.

Go by the pre-pass. These coops have signs out that note "Transponder equipped vehicles follow on-board devices".
