I passed this accident going the opposite direction this morning at around 0830. Looks like the tanker driver is very lucky to be alive...be sure to check the pics, including the one showing the rear UPS pup on top of the tanker's cab. The wheels of the pup were sitting right over the drivers seat....very scary, even hours after the fact.

From the article it sounds as if the trucker on the shoulder pulled out into traffic without building up enough speed. I have had idiots do this a few times, and almost cause an accident.
-
It states that the 1st accident involving the pick-up that attempted to enter the highway in front of a semi and a van. THAT crash closed the freeway for several hours.
The Double Double Tanker crash occurred as traffic was beginning to move
after the freeway was re-opened. The tanker did not stop and rammed UPS into FedEx.
That's how I read it...Giggles the Original and Tazz Thank this. -
After rereading the story it was the pick up that came off the shoulder ans caused the wreck. I wonder if the SOB stopped after he caused all that mayhem?
-
The first wreck caused by the pick up caused the owner of the pick up to be taken to the hospital.
The second wreck was caused by the driver of the tanker not realizing traffic was stopped in front of him.
"This is just another case of apparent driver inattention," said ISP Probationary Officer David Millburg, investigating at the scene. "Driving is a serious matter and all your attention should be devoted to watching the road and the conditions ahead as well."larryaz Thanks this. -
Thats why I leave space in traffic, I also throw my hazzards on if no one else is behind me. I have no intentions on becoming an accordian!

Glad I wasn't the only one to see it...Tazz Thanks this.

yeah that always scares me when we come to a stop that we will get rearended, everyone else is worried about being so close so as to let let any traffic in...me...i am leaving plenty of space...
Tazz Thanks this. -
I always leave the 4 ways on and leave enough room for an out until I get a fairly good line behind me.
I always worry about the ones running up behind it as well not paying attention and smashing into me.Giggles the Original Thanks this. -
I bet the tanker yanker will be out of a job.
