1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

should I tell'em anyway

At my boyfriend's driving school, they stressed the importance of listing everything, and the most of the applications worded it as "have you EVER been..." My boyfriend couldn't even remember most of his stuff, let alone different dates. He couldn't remember what he had plea-bargained, and beer made memories fuzzy. I paid for a couple of different background checks from different companies and he came up clean everywhere. I even went to the country courthouse to try to see what I could find. According to all these entities, he had a clean record (but Canada kicked him out at the border). On his first couple of apps, he listed everything that he thought he could remember. Then the recruiter from Gordon told him not to list anything over 10 years old, that if he hadn't, they would have hired him. There's no easy answer.

If you plan on crossing the Canadian border, be prepared to turn around.

Canada uses Interpol. It is the compilation of everything & anything the world has on you.
It will have any arrests, for no matter what reason because it's tied to the Fed Gov's computers.
They have everything about you from birth (literally) enshrined in a file somewhere.

If you want a really good asessment of your criminal record, get it from the Canadians.
If it doesn't show up there, it didn't happen.

Well Im not sure what you should do...I always like to be honest. I know that in the teaching world...they always ask "Have you EVER, at ANY TIME been convicted of...."

Hate to lie and say no...only to have it bite you in the rump down the road. There was something in the news a month or 3 back about some higher ups at some colleges that lied on their resumes about their experience or education...got em canned I believe.

Im with ziggy here. I had 'posession of stolen property' 11 years ago. I filled out an app with Roehl a few days ago and despite others saying I shouldnt tell them about it, I put on the app. If that keeps me from being hired, so be it. If I were hired with them, Id always have that hanging over my head. Do they know about it or will they find out? I dont want to go through each day wondering if I will be fired for something I didnt disclose on my app.

From what I've seen with applications is the 5-10 year rule is for job history information & infractions, stuff like that. The felony stuff is like what others have said, "have you ever been convicted of a felony, if yes please explain", kind of thing.

I have read many, many stories in here from people just like you. They didn't put something down on their history, they were hired got to orientation, they do another check and find something. I have heard of drivers getting through orientation, training, and getting on the road and then getting fired because something was found. I understand your delima, but I would rather get a job that knows the truth and hired me, then to get a job and then always be worried if they find the truth out about it and getting fired. Right now your DAC is clean because you haven't been caught in a lie and fired, but the moment you're hired and then fired for something like this, you just made things a lot more difficult on yourself.

I'm sure if the charge was for anything other than drug possession you probably wouldn't have a problem, but since it is for drugs, that has added a little more to it. I'm not sure of the process (so someone may be able to correct me on this), but I'm sure these companies have to go through underwriters for insurance and the moment they see this, it raises a red flag, even being 12 years ago.

I go with Wiseone on this one. I too hope you pick the right time and place for drinking beer or any alcohol. There are too many drivers out there still drinking and driving.

You must be kidding. If the question asks if you have ever had any felonies, you'd better disclose this or you risk incurring a second felony.

Mr. Horn is right. Ever notice that little part at the bottom of the application where you could incur legal damages for knowingly misrepresenting yourself in the application. That's why they have you sign and date it...

Those ############# who do their background check are still reporting a misdemeanor I had expunged.
