All my stuff is in my truck and I know where to find it. As said above, I have a high quality mattress with a 4" thick memory foam pad on it. I get to set the heat at whatever temperature I want, leave the lights on if I want to, whatever...and I don't have to pack out a bag full of crap (I am a woman, after all) just to sleep in a bed that isn't mine....Like they say, there's no bed as comfortable as your own.
And then, there's the cleanliness aspect. I know who's been between the sheets in my bunk, and what they've done there, so no icky surprises.
The shower at my terminal is well kept and clean, with no shortage of hot water and I use MY linens.
The memory foam mattress topper was about $89 at Walmart. The mattress itself came with the truck. It's a Serta Twin XL. Pillows were $20 each. I use two. Then, there's sheets...it's not always easy to find Twin XL sheets and you may have to order them. And MY blankets that smell like me ...and, at the foot of the bed, like the dog. He knows better than to sleep on my end.
Do many truckers do this??

If I'm going to be stuck somewhere hot or cold due to no reload I'll get a room, just to save on fuel. I also did it when the AC in my truck went out and I was stopped in Plainview to drop at Walmart in the AM during the panhandle heatwave.

34 hour resets away from home I always get a hotel room. Company pays for them. If I run 70 hours in 6-7 days I figure I deserve to get out of the truck for a couple of nights.

Your miles from anywere and your trucks craps out, and they tow it too the dealership and they wont let you sleep in the truck while in shop or there lounge , so you would rather sleep in the parking lot then a motel room, i'll take my chance on the motel room , with a hot tub, resturant pool ect. for the three days your there ,

Everett, I don't think that's what the O/P was referring to. Of course, in a situation like your example, I will get a room. If it's for a 10-hour or 34-hour break, though, I am more comfortable in my truck.
mtnMoma Thanks this. -
I have stayed in a motel alot. Company paid for it.

Of course anyone in that situation would get a hotel but that's not what anyone here was refering to.. Use some common sense man...

The whole idea you are out there is to make money. I try to keep expenses to a minimum. Motels are for breakdowns and vacation.
Invest in making your truck comfortable.
My aunt lives in Austria. Over there they put these 4 inch thick comforters full of down feathers on their beds and then their sheets. The cover is removable and washable. She sent me one and I used it in the truck. That thing is like sleeping on a cloud. They ought to sell them here in the US. Someone would get rich. -
Not here, they wouldn't, Condo.
They would be picketed by PETA, SPCA activists, Save the Geese Foundation and the Society of Goose Voting Rights kooks. A lawsuit would be presented to the Ninth Circuit and the owners of the company would be ruined, having been told to pay punitive damages in the tens of millions plus attorney's fees and court costs.lonewolf4ad and mtnMoma Thank this. -
I've seen a couple of different out-of-state outfits pulling refers with daycabs parked at motels in town. I figure either the company picks up the tab or these drivers have got to be making a lot of money.
