Jeri is a she. I spoke with the safety department and all they said was, "if you don't feel safe driving the vehicle due to a mechanical issue than don't drive." My DM initially said, "Use common sense driver. You are not to move the truck anywhere. I am going to contact the ops manager and get right back to you." Ten minutes later comes another message from my DM. "The ops manager said go ahead and get the wiper fixed at the Petro, just let is know how much it's going to cost first."Shortly after sending my DM the estimate I receive another message which reads, "Maintenance insists you take it over to the dealer to get it fixed because it's a recall issue." Somehow my DM went from standing up for his drivers to 'where the heck did I put my spine?'.

I don't know who this magical Steve guy is, but I tried going up the chain of command and the further I went, the more voice mails and 'the person you are trying to connect with is not available." The last response I got from maintenance was that I needed to wait the weather out to get to the dealership. I called the dealership and they will not allow an outside shop to work on Internationals under any circumstances or it will void the warranty, and it appears that this is what Celadon is more concerned with. Celadon is more concerned over a $200 bill than they're with the safety of a driver and their paycheck.

The local news here is closing several activities due to the storms in the Harrisburg area according to the local news. There has been flood watches and warnings listed, yet Celadon claims that they have seen the weather radar and the skies are expected to clear soon. Apparently as long as Celadon says to wait it out, DOT has no say in the matter. I'm not sure if driving without the wipers working if the weather is good or bad is a DOT violation or not.

If you don't hear from me again, then those lottery numbers worked.

I had a routine serv done at a term once and a mech disconn my wiper motor and did not reconnect. Since I did not know they went in the dash and it was not raining I errored and did not check my wipers during pretrip.

When it started raining i turned on wipers and nothing. I had to stick my head out the window to see to get off the road. I had a road serv guy come out and they said everything checks out and he did not know why the wipers were not working.

I called dp and they actually said to use rainx to try to get to a truck stop shop. can't put on rainx when it is raining you fool was my thought.

I had a litebulb moment and decide to pull of the dash since I had plenty of free time waiting for the rain to stop and noticed the motor unpluged.

A proper pretrip would of saved me a few hrs and some wet clothes.

My wiper arm came off its motor mechanism as I was going down the highway while it was pouring rain. Just cannot believe that these bozos would suggest to drive in those conditions without clear visual on the roads. This not only puts the driver at risk, think about all the other passengers on the road it could have effected. Try explaining that one to the judge - Celadon would not have to play dumb, that part is obvious.

Actually more like, "risk the safety of others in order to save a few dollars"

Couldn't agree more. My company has its computer system set up NOT to dispatch a truck if there is a repair order on it. I'm at a Freightlier getting my leveller valve replaced, and has been in our system since Tuesday. My DM tried to dispatch me on a load thius morning. Wonder how he got around it.....:biggrin_25511:

:biggrin_25524: Well if this happen too me, i did as you did first, then the company if this was a recall , ok, could the dealership and petro get together, meaning use the petro shop , and dispacth a service truck, that's what i be ask next, or long as i'm empty now , send the big hook , to tow too the dealership, i told off many dispacters for playing dum, i told one , one day , how about i go there with my chainsaw and saw a big hole over your head in the roof and wacth the snow fall in on you and you try too work, , at that time it was really snowing real heavy at terminal, thats how i told him im , as i was driving , as i stopped for the night in this heavy snowstorm, you could not see past the hood, and i had only 56 miles too go, but my arms ach from holding the wheels so tight, my eye strain was very bad, too try too see the edge of the road or the midel
when the condtions are bad out i call saftey first then my dispacth, a lesson i lernt early on, they wacth and listen too the weather channel's, too many drivers telling bs storys too em, but yes , i would told them that too send service truck.
