I'm fresh out of trucking school, and trying to make a good choice; as to where to work. Werner came and got 1/2 my class to sign with them, but I resisted seeing the low starvation training wage. I missed the guy from Swift, but saw they paid better than Werner for both training, and driving. Looked at May, but didn't get details beyond 3 day orientation, and your on the road. Then saw the complaints about May. So I passed. Guys I'm trying to find a fair company, that I can drive for without being forced into a lease program. <talked to the Earl Henderson trucking guy this morning, and he's all about leasing a new 2012 freightliner after training. I wasn't born yesterday regardless of what my wife of 33 yrs will tell you. I don't know jack about the business beyond trucking school. I'm a Western Pacific grad, and they truely did give me decent enough training to drive a rig, but experence is seriously lacking. I'm on my 3rd yr driving school bus, and want a real job. So here I am bouncing off the walls trying to find a good trucking company to stay with.

No one can force you into a lease. They may harass, badger, and otherwise annoy the heck out of you, but they can not force you to sign a lease purchase.

Have you looked into Schneider National.. While they start out low in pay, they keep you running consistently. I worked for them for a little over a year. I got home regularly, made ok money for a rookie.. Sure lots of other companies pay more to start out, but I was always running.. Never sitting in a truck stop for more than my 10 hour break. They have a pretty decent training program, and if you have a problem with your truck they fix it.

I agree, please do not go with Werner. There training pay is 350 per week, before tax after taxes and deductions.....280-. Their trainer are in it just for the pay....extra 10,000. a year.
