Does anyone here have a dual citizenship (American/Canadian) ?
I'm sure there is an advantage, but how do you use it to your advantage ?
Which country to you reside in (pay taxes)
If you are a O/O, How does it effect your business ?

I do.. But I'm not oo and besides having appropriate docs for entering either country, I don't know of any advantages. Might be a tad smoother for me passing border guards, but not really.
I reside in the usa, born in canada.
If there are advantages, I'd love to hear them. -
you can pickup and deliver loads in canada or usa without crossing borders.
-
Are you sure???
I don't think that law stopping you from doing that has anything to do with the driver.. I think it has to do with the company.. Where you work from... So if it's a Canadian company you can't pick up in US and deliver to US.... You have to pickup Canada deliver US.. Pick up US deliver to Canada....
The only way you might get around it is if the company is a US and Canadian based company.... With terminals in both countries.. But even then I still don't think you can.... I am know expert so take that with a grain of salt... -
No the law for moving freight point to point in one country is based on the driver being legally able to work in that country, as long as the truck is licenced for those states or provinces, it don't matter where the truck is based out of, as long as the driver is legal to work in that country!
A canadian can work for a US trucking company, but he must always cross the border with US loads or else stay in canada and haul freight in canada.
So a driver with dual US/Canadian has the best of both worlds. -
I just found out today that Native Americans and Native Canadians are exempt from cabotage laws in the US and Canada.
-
And natives can't be kept out of either country for criminal records either, they are citizens of north america and were here before the continent was split into different countries, they also don't need licence to fish or hunt and can do that anytime they want.
-
Cabatoge laws still apply to dual citizens, if you reside in the Usa you cannot P/U and del in Canada, and vice versa.
It is not bound on where you are a citizen, but rather on where you reside..... -
that's what I figured....
