What's happening is that they're a minimum wage employer with a minimum wage mentality. They want you in the door so they can get you to move as many of their loads as possible before you realize how much of a bath you're taking and run for your life.
Run for your life now, and avoid the rush. (Run away from Werner, I mean).7122894003481 and Nycmex77 Thank this. -
Maybe they are paying a premium for students from your area via your recruiter. Call the recruiter and ask. Werner, Swift, etc are all the same except for the color of the truck. Pay your dues like every other experienced driver and in a year or so find a good company to work for. Good companies usually don't own 8,000 trucks or even 1,000 trucks. After my year at an entry level company, I went to work for a regional with less than 200 trucks and was very happy. My pay went from .28 to .35 per mile and I was off on weekends, and still got 2500-3000 miles per week.
If you decide to be an electrician tomorrow, you wouldn't expect to start out at journeyman wages, would you? No you'd get paid like the helper or apprentice you would be. The only difference in trucking is that the journeymen type companies let other companies train the apprentices.Nashville Driver, Nycmex77, Ops85 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Well said.

Keep lookin! Your school is getting paid to steer you toward those companies. Wouldn't you want to go to a company that has a slightly less turn over rate? The harder it is to get hired the more worth it the company is going to be to work for.
Has anyone ever seen the "Bee Movie"? The cartoon movie with Jerry Sienfeld? That's what the CDL mills and mega-carriers remind me of! You go through a few days of school, graduate and then are automatically hired working for the giant hive!
