Almost A Trucker

Hi. I'm a 26 year old female student. I'll have my CDL in 3 weeks. I decided to get my CDL to have something to fall back on. My current job is really pissing me off to the point where I almost walked out knowing I had absolutely nothing to go to, and since I'm the sole provider for my family that would have been disastrous. I joined this forum to hear from experienced drivers before I decide to make a drastic career change. I feel that going OTR may be good for me. It'll hopefully be a little more money than I make now, and It'll be good for to get away from alll the drama at home. I'm also trying to be realistic, and keep in mind that trucking isn't for everyone. Any tips for a newbie would be appreciated.

 

I've kept this in mind, and since you brought up....I work for a production facility that does local runs of their product. If I stay with them I'm trying to talk them into letting me make runs for them every now and then. How often would I have to drive to keep from having to take a refresher course? Their longest run is 6 hrs round-trip. Shortest is 1 1/2 round-trip.
