With current and possible extension of tax breaks for purchases of equipment, wonder if offering a program to O/O's that lease on to me that can purchase a trailer and we finance so they can take advantage of deduction would be of interest.

Looked at what some other companies are offering and it reads more like a trailer LP, something that we can do. But would being able to get a bigger upfront tax deduction be something that is of interest?

Also, newer trailer vs older, refurbished trailer (new brakes, tires, doors if needed, etc)? Looking to do this with flatbed and van.

Bill I would think it would be appealing. IMHO, the tax benefits would be icing on the cake. The real benefit would be gaining ownership of the trailer over renting.

No disrespect intended to anyone but many truck owners are more truck driver than businessman and this would be one of their few options of owning a trailer. It could turn out that some would leave and get their authority after they own the trailer. But there are plenty to replace them if you don't see that as a downside.

IMHO, from both your standpoint and the truck owners standpoint a refurbished trailer with new virgin rubber, new brakes and new drums would be the most lucrative. That's what I would be shopping for.

    Is Farm2Fleet your website?

Yes, www.farm2fleet.com is our website. Not much to it now as we need to focus on other items but should put the guy back to work on it next week or so.

BigJohn, sorry to short answer you on earlier post. Was getting ready to start rolling when I responded.

Not only would having a driver leave to become an O/O not bother me, if they expressed to me that this was their goal I would do all I could to help them achieve that goal. We will even help them complete the authority process at no charge.

My feeling is that when you help people succeed you are doing more for your business than if you try and take from people. I am in this for the long run and would love nothing more than 10-years from now to see dozens of O/O's that I feel in some small part I helped them achieve independence.

On the operations side of my business is my wife. And she comes from a financial services background. And as a financial advisor when you go to work for a company it is much like when a driver leases onto a carrier. But the advisor is treated like gold and with the ultimate respect. She is completely disgusted with the way that companies treat drivers and dedicated to making drivers feel the way she felt working for financial services companies.

Bill, I thought it was worth mentioning. I absolutely knew this would be your answer though. When I started writing that I anticipated what you would say! I feel the same way and know you do. There is far more reward in helping someone up than holding them down.

Thanks. Something funny my wife said this morning. Why is it that all it takes to be considered a good trucking company is that you pay your bills no more than 15 days late?

I have been given a lot of support in what I am doing. Just want to make sure what I am doing is fair and going down a path that O/O's would be interested in. At first look at an opportunity that was presented to me regarding trailers I thought it was expensive. When I looked at the total dollars paid over 30-months it was not a great deal.

But someone mentioned that most drivers are renting a trailer for a lot more per month that what we are looking at and in 30-months they are still renting.

What I want to do is make this work and be able to provide bumper-to-bumper coverage for the first 12-months, keep the payment below $100/week and in 30-months they own the trailer free and clear.

That is a great deal for you and someone else. Just hope someone doesn't tear one up and then leave you with the bill. Keep up the great work.
I believe I read one of your posts that you have a Volvo with a ved12 I am looking at one of US Expresses 06 Vlolvo's with a ved12 and I am wondering if you have good luck or not? I have searched internet can't really find alot wrong with them.
    Thank You

Yeah I looked at them. They all had the 2 pedal auto that I didn’t like. Plus it amazed me that they would order those with crank drivers window and a couple other items that seemed to be missing that other 780’s had.

I ended up with a Interstate with less than 450K miles on an ’06. It was hard to get. Every time I found one to go look at it would be sold before I could get there.
