I took this shot during the summer of 2001 when you could fly up and down the Hudson River...I used to take my 1973 Piper Challenger up there to show all my friends and family this unique way to see NY without having to actually be in NY, LOL...This day, the last day I made this trip before they went down, I happened to be solo and brought a camera...You can see from the angle you were required to fly lower than the top of the building which I always thought was so cool...I'll never forget these flights and this one photo is very special to me, even more so now...Bon appetite!

What's a Challenger? A version of the Cherokee?
Nice shot. I have a few pictures myself. But they were in the late 90's. -
I was in Manhattan checkin' out the sights while moving from one duty station to another in 1974... that's when I saw them. Brand new.

Here is a couple of pictures of the old girl:
The Challenger Thanks this. -
Thanks. I pretty much know my aircraft and never heard of that one. You learn something everyday.
Does the tower ever call you a Cherokee??
She's looks good. -
I remember being a kid and going to work with my old man into lower Manhattan as the buildings were being built. I watched in awe as the steel was being raised floor by floor. Then in '74 when they were completed they decided to put up the TV antenna on top of Bldg. 2. That did nothing but make all TV reception for 50 miles in every direction real snowy. Fast forward to 2011 and my wife and mom just got back from the memorial and dedication for my cousin that was killed in the collapse of tower 1. What a world we live in today.
Never Forget 9/11/01!Hitman Thanks this. -

My Dad worked for a landscaping company in Stamford, Conn. They were helping to dig the basement for the towers, they were hired to haul dirt out. I remember looking into the hole in the ground before they started pouring concrete. Biggest, deepest manmade hole I've ever seen!JohnBoy Thanks this. -
