Could anyone tell me the specs.
Recently was inspected, The trooper noted " that is a old radio, haven't seen that in a long time".
Not much of a radio guy, Has me curious now.
Received this radio a few years ago from a old neighbor. He also said they outlawed the 23 channel Many Moons ago. Rumor?
It's attached to a no name 48" single whip. Works great
Have $15 invested in the entire setup ( $15 co-axle )
Grabbed off google
-Thanks shaggy

I can tell you theres' one on eBay right now, new in box, bidding's at $51 with 21 hours to go.
23 channels, probably 4 watts of power, built around 1974-1975. I believe they used crystals. Here's a vintage advertisement for your viewing pleasure...

According to a CB shop I used to frequent, when the new 40 channel Cb radios became legal for sale and use on January 1, 1977, the old 23 channel models lost their FCC certification. According to this old timer, you could still use a 23 channel radio if you bought it before 1-7-1977 but you were no longer allowed to legally sell said 23 channel radios.
However I've read elsewhere, 23 channel radios are not even supposed to be used anymore. Of course if that is so, then what are you supposed to do with them? Heck there's a ton of them floating around.

Nice find. Thank you. What you said ton of them floating around, what you supposed to do with them. $200 in 1974. Can't just toss it out
still works and still going to use it. Screw the FCC
The other drivers never complained about it. works like it should. clear and no echo crap. doesn't bleed not sure if thats correct wording.
Offtopic: I noticed your username. What year is your Turbo T ?
I had a 86 GN.Last edited: Sep 11, 2011

I don't blame you, if it were me I'd still use it. It's silly for the FCC to say it's not legal just because it was superseded by a new 40 channel model 34 years ago. As long as it's not going on frequencies it shouldn't or as long as it's not causing interference on someone's phone/TV/baby monitor, etc, then as far as I see it, "no harm, no foul".
It's a 1987 model. That's cool you had a GN, they're pretty awesome cars. I also have a 1969 Nova. Yeah I'm a car nut too and a hot rodder.
Shaggy Thanks this. -
OK here is what the FCC is doing .....
They are not legal HOWEVER if it is STOCK they will not care .....
If you mod it it becomes a export radio since the cretification is void ....
This mess is FCC at its best they have no one to blame but them .....
They did ban te sale and use of them then never inforced it .....
As of Jan 1978 the rule took effect ......Shaggy Thanks this. -
If it works and nobody complains about how it sounds, use it. What do you have to lose? But if it sounds off frequency, you may need to take it to a quality, key word quality, cb shop or park it. Some of the old 23 channel cb radios have a habit of getting off frequency in their old age.
.
I say enjoy it.Shaggy Thanks this. -
It is not only CB radios the REGENCY Hams radios are really bad ....

My dad had 2 of the tram diamond 40s brand new from the factory and they both put out 7 watts from the factory never were touched by anyone after they were made and i gotta say those were some great radios, he sold them both a few years back but man they worked great.
Shaggy Thanks this. -
Assuming it is still factory stock. I wouldn't know either way.
Thank you everyone for the input. The dinosaur is staying alive to see the meltdown of 2012 whatever the tin foil hat people are calling it.
