I've always carried the green book, but had no idea it was required. I'll have to look that one up.

There is guidance that says if you have another way of looking up the FMCSR's (ie. laptop), that you're not required to physically have the book.

Edit: This is referring to the Green book only, I do not know, and would doubt if this would apply to the ERG for Hazmat.

First I have heard of it.

Never been asked if I had it on any inspection.

Do you have a link to support this?

Actually I was incorrect. The FMCSR's or the guidebook are not required. The ERG (hazmat) is if your carrying hazmat.

I had always been told a company was required to give them to you. However after trying to find the regulation and talking with a couple different safety guy's I was incorrect. What a company is required to do is make sure you are aware of all the FMCSR's. Since this would take several days if not weeks of classes during orientation to accomplish they simply provide you a copy of the regulations they are required to ensure you know(little book as opposed to big full book).

Learn something new every once in a while I guess.

correct, we'll have you sign that first page. That means you know everything and you agree to follow the rules. Then you'll take that little book and place it with the rest of the crap you got during orientation and place it in a nook above the passenger seat, never to be looked at again.

    Tazz Thanks this.

The peoplenet crap we use doesnt have any sort of a grid. Its got all of the numbers not not in a log/grid layout. If they really decide to look at us we pretty much have to get to faxxing. I thought these things were suppossed to be convenient. Also,we have seperate screens and keyboards and the screens are bolted into the dash. We pretty much have to fax. I hate it. Luckily I havent had to deal with it yet.
