Why do I get the feeling this poster spent more time texting than driving?
-
LOL....I think I have to agree...

Were you able to read it?
Grammar is not something we are supposed to be commenting on. -
Ya know...I made no comment about his grammar. I made a remark about the form of his communication...lighten up, for cryin' out loud, man...it was a purely topical observation about the post and the time he had to text versus the apparent lack of miles USA Truck is having him run. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.
Geez...IUFAN87 Thanks this. -
i worked for USA in 2009 and i had very few complaints, i had a great dispatcher, got great miles (3000) plus every week, now i stayed on the road for 6 weeks at a time and took my 5 days off, never had any problems getting home on time or getting a load out of the house, never ran any short local miles either, just do what they ask and run what they give you is the way i run and dont piss your dispatcher off and they usually take care of ya, just put my app back in with them, looking to go back making some money

I think the common denominator here is relationships with FMs. Almost every disgruntled driver I've talked to in this company has had a bad relationship with their FM. Some are just bad FMs which does prove true as we've had another few get fired recently. Other times I think a lot of it just falls back on the drivers themselves. I can't count how many times I've been at a terminal and seen a driver screaming and cussing on the phone at his fm about "getting another load to the north east" or how he only wants to go out for 2 weeks at a time but he's not getting enough miles. Some of these things should be common sense. Everybody hates northeast but freight has to run there. You are not the first and only driver to complain. Suck it uP and drive the #### truck. If you only want to go out for 2 weeks at a time, it's hard to get you good miles because you can't get far from home. If you do then your fm has to worry about you screaming and cussing and threatening to call safety and personnel over missing your home time.
Maybe some of my attitude comes from being in the Army for 9 years but I treat my fm as my supervisor, not as a moron. I show him the proper chain of command respect and he has NEVER talked down to me, disrespected me, or screwed me over. I average 2200-2600 miles per week, I ALWAYS get breakdown pay when needed, he answers the phone when I call, and I stay out for 6 weeks at a time. I've only missed home time once and that was for a breakdown which he made up to me by getting me a 1200 mile load that went by the house. Even one time our fleet had a driver who went nuts and called all the way up to one person below Cliff Beckham about how horrible his job was. Well David, ops mgr, called every driver in our fleet to ask about our satisfaction level. I told him I'd drive this truck to oblivion and back for my FM. That's my trust level.
Bottom line is mutual understanding. Drivers need to understand that FMs do NOT drive trucks and generally have no clue about road life. For that reason they need to be patient with them and work WITH them instead of fighting them. That fm makes money on the accounts that WE service. That's his top priority. If we make it ours too, the rest will trickle down. Don't believe me? Fight with your fm constantly and see if things improve. Mine calls me about preplans. He says if I will take a load to Massachusetts for him he will line up a preplan for Chicago or Laredo. Does yours?cholosgirl Thanks this. -
I think USA just fired MR. Bush.
Thank GOD!!!!!!!!!!
now i can make some money with a proper fleet manager!!!! -
Good luck to you, it's too late for me. Ever since the TMW changeover I made next to nothing. For two months straight I averaged 950-1300 miles a week, they agreed to pay me for multiple layovers but still to this day haven't paid me and now act like they never agreed to it. Came off of home time last week and first load was 100 miles total that customer wouldn't take til' 10 hrs later, that was it for me...it was obvious this was going to be another waste of my time. I was fortunate in that I was still at the terminal in my home city, so I didn't have to worry about a bus trip or getting my belongings back home.
I was grateful for a good while that I had a job and that USA took a chance on me, for a good while I made mediocre to good money...the mediocre weeks usually offset great weeks...nonetheless, I could pay my bills and have something left over most times. But,...the savior TMW changed everything...I went from being a payment UP on my home...yes a payment up...meaning I was a payment ahead...and $1300 in my pocket to being a payment behind and depending on cash advances to make it through each week. The writing was on the wall...I would go bankrupt while working for this company and doing everything they needed for me to do.
I think it was a blessing, I was never really able to look into local jobs because they would never allow taking home time during the week. Last week I found local driving jobs that only require 3 months experience, have 2 interviews this week, so far. I'm feeling good about it.
In the end, USA caused me great financial harm. I know that miles are not guaranteed...BUT if they didn't have the miles then I would rather be sitting at home than babysitting the truck for free.
Good luck to all of you guys, didn't work out for me but I hope that those who are still there make a lot of $$$ -
Okay I have a mixed review of USA Truck..... Yes My FM was a slave driver. Yes I did get my miles even when I made her mad. No I was not impressed with the miles on some weeks Yes It was my fault that I had stuff going on at home that I would not miss. i only missed home time once. But yes I lived off the cash advances. No they did not pay as promised. I did a drop and hook to complete another drivers load. 9 miles I got paid for 9 miles. not the $60. that they promise. I was told it is up to payroll what they will pay on a load. But I did get my layover usually more than I deserved, breakdown pay, motels and some meals lol. Overall USA did me okay while I was there. I guess I left on decent terms cause I get calls to come back once a month.
