I made the fatal mistake of moving to South Florida. I've been around the industry most of my life, but have been out since March 2010. Now I need to get back on the road only to find only the notorious slime bag companies hire this far South. Any suggestions other than moving? Does anyone know of any smaller companies that will hire down here?

I have no clue but it is the same here in Tampa, 99% are shady or head hunters looking for a kill.
Bad part with me is that I haul OD or heavy and the pickings are slim, good thing is I am not going to bow down for someone looking for a cheap driver. -
You could try Calex, mid size company that seems to really care about their people, also seem to get you out and back every week unless u want to stay out longer. There is a long thread by some of their drivers in favorite section I think, one guy is down pretty far south off 95 so you should be ok. Tampa not so sure but they do reefer and van, don't know if that would interest you or not.
Good luck and happy hunting!! -

Armellini is down there. Heartland has a lot of FL dedicated as well. Good luck, it's tough down there.

I logged on to the Florida employment site, may want to check it out since they have jobs listed in your area for CDL drivers.

There are a few threads about the pains of Florida trucking, search for more info. How far south are you? That matters as every company seems to draw the line somewhere around the Tamp/Orlando/Melbourne area. I am in Vero Beach which seems to be just a little too far south for most.
Off hand I can suggest Heartland, USExpress, Armellini (Team Only), Windy Hill, Sunco Carriers is O/O only but they have fleet owners who will hire. Also try Swift, they have some new Wal mart DC's they just picked up in FL.
There are some tanker companies in the Lakeland/Orlando area that may hire.
Also try Werner (yuck) and CRST (Yuck). Other than that try to find a small fleet owner or O/O who hauls reefers, meat in and produce out of Florida. There are alot O/O's who haul freight out of FL, look around. Honestly there is work everywhere driving, some places are easier than FL but the work is there.
Good Luck.aiwiron Thanks this.
