I have a 2007 780 with a D12D motor with a pretty serious coolant leak on top of the motor. Several weeks ago I had a new radiator installed. After it was installed a series of leaks began. I replaced all hoses that I can find that are pressure hoses dealing with the cooling system. The motor idles with no leaks. When I get under a load, or even when empty, and start putting stress on the motor coolant begins to blow from the motor. When opening the hood, I can see spray on the inside of the hood right over the top cover, or rocker arm cover; I call it.

Is there another pressure line for the coolant system that I have missed that would put coolant on top of the motor? Right now I am losing about 1/4 gallon of coolant daily.

To me it looks like oil splash not coolant. But anyway, try to let the hood open somewhere into an empty truckstop or some wide open space and apply the trailer brakes and start moving the truck slow(like it would be a loaded trailer) and then go to the engine and check which pipe is leaking.
The way it looks in the pics there is a biiiiig hole somewhere not a leak.
Did u check the EGR cooler? I replace two of them on my truck and I know there are very leak-able and break-able.

it looks like bad front cranck seal, ore valve cover. It must be a big leak! So many drops everywhre becouse fan blows))

I use to put some powder on oil and run engine to see the point of leak. Do not use high pressure wash there!

I appreciate your replies. I have a small oil leak on the top cover. I was told it wasn't worth the 1800 dollar fix. Just found that my water pump is blowing the water out the side of the motor. The fan comes on and catches it all and makes a serious mess. Engine runs fine despite looking so ugly.

You should be able to find a new oil cover at a junkyard.

it is made of plastic and may be fixed with polyether. But clean well, remove oil with solvent for paint

Thanks guys. Just found that it is not even the water pump. Its not the egr cooler neither. And I had all hoses replaced. I guess replacing the resevoir is next. I ran the truck at the maintenance shop for 8 hours at high idle. No leak showed up. Frustrating :biggrin_25510:

Take a look at the thermostat housing as well. There are 3 long bolts keeping the thing tighten onto the gasket and it takes a Volvo tool to install it or you can use a pry bar instead.
On top of the tank you can install a cap with a tire valve and pressurize the cooling system at about 14-15 PSI and check for leaks.

    8080 Thanks this.

Thanks for your reply Mania. I think you got it right on point. The thermostat gaskets is what everyone, to include myself, has been over looking. I think ill just take it to volvo and tell them to seal my cooling system. Im losing alot of money atm trying to run short to stay near home. We will see what happens tomorrow or monday morning. Thanx again.

    Hello everyone,
I fixed the leak which was blowing water all over the motor. However, I am still losing water from my resevoir. I am not getting any white smoke from the exhaust pipes or any water leaking on the ground. My question is.. What coolant leak can occur with absolutely no visible signs. Also, I had a test done on my coolant system and it shows there is no fuel or oil contamination and there is no water in my oil system.

Injector cups maybe? If so, how difficult is it to change them out myself and what are the procedures?
