Doesn't make sense.

That's what I thought but we are both noobs so we don't know anything. When you properly turn from the outside lane your tandems should never even enter the inside lane so cars using the inside lane should be no concern for you. But when turning from the inside lane you are now entering the outside lane and you cannot look at your tandems in the passenger side mirror and watch your drivers side mirror at the same time and IMO have a better chance of causing an accident since your truck is in a lane it shouldn't be (blocking both turning lanes). But that's just my opinion (and the opinion of my instructors and driver trainer). Not saying they are never wrong, but logic tells me their way is the correct way.

Although that is a nuisance at times, especially when you'd have a place to park if there wern't that much distance between the trucks but I can't stand it when drivers are lazy and don't park straight in a parking lot that does have lines.
What really agitates me is the parking lots that have spaces where the trucks park end to end and so many drivers either encroach that line by 10 feet or more or stop 10 feet from it. Granted, if your parked that far away from it because you have a shorter trailer or that's as far as you could back in because the wingnut behind you didn't know when to stop, then no worries.
Maybe the truckstops should line the divider lines with k-rails...... -
If that's clearly the reason you do it, then I'm cool with that because some drivers like to break speed records and turn those headlights back on as quick as they turned them off so I can understand the possible confusion as to whether or not the driver you just passed gave you the "come back over" flash.
That's why when I flash, my headlights stay off for a little over a second to help with removing all doubt.
My beef with getting the marker or 4-ways flash when I didn't flash a passing driver over was actually aimed at the drivers that do that because they expect it, no matter what. I'm well aware it is a
a courtesy that began way back before the Smokey and the Bandit and the Convoy days but as far as I'm concerned, if you ain't holdin' up traffic in the hammer lane, you shouldn't be in a big-arsed hurry or need my assistance coming back over. I could care less how long you stayed over there. Or if you need over to catch an exit in heavy, big city traffic and all the four-wheelers are being buttheads.Last edited: Sep 13, 2011

Most of the time if you are turning from the inside lane there simply isnt enough room to make the turn without encroaching on the outside lane.
We have all done it, sometimes they are not marked as double turn lanes very well. I can say Ive done it a couple times. I always double and triple check before I swing out into the other lane that theres no other vehicle coming, because if I hit him, that accident is 100% my fault!
Now, we have all done it on accident, but there are a few drivers who do it on purpose out of laziness. Theres a turn off of the interstate to get to the terminal that I work out of and it is a double left turn lane. Shortly after making the turn you have to make a left turn onto another street. Well some of our drivers will take the inside left turn lane so that they dont have to get over to the left lane after making the turn off the interstate to be able to hit the street they need. And these are guys who come back to that terminal every single day. They are nothing but stupid. There is plenty of room to use the outside turn lane, and then get over into the left lane after you make the turn, but they choose to be lazy. That is a whole different story.
So the moral of this rant is, anytime you can possibly use the outside turn lane, do it!Ranger70 Thanks this. -
Yes but when you turn properly from the inside lane you will have no problem with the outside lane and no problem with the curb, shoulder, etc.... As a general rule you are correct but you are going on the assumption that all turn lanes are created equal. Just because you are turning from an inside lane (if there is room) does not automatically mean you have to go into the outside lane as part of your turn. You can never look in both mirrors at the same time (although there is peripheral vision) thats why our heads swivel
And, even if there are two lanes, it does not mean that turning from either one will leave you enough room to not intrude into the other one, you might have to use them both. In certain area's there is more than one way to skin a cat.

I almost got a ticket, and all i was doing was turning a corner in a very small town, this was over in Wi too just about 35 miles east of 41 , i was taking a shortcut back too the shop, i come into town, thought nothen of it, on the corner side or curb side, was a big power pole, right on the corner, i was allready crawling, super crawling, becuse i heard this cop , likes too hand out ballroom tickets , right and left and for no reason at all, he hates 18 wheelers with a passion, anyway i was wacthing the right, my right side was almost on the power pole, i'd say anthor 6 inchs i would hit it, but i didnt, but my left steer went over the yellow doubles, , theres was nobody around, it was 3 am in the morn,no traffic , but me,i get straighten up , tooling down the main drag when he pulls me over so whip over in front the store , i only took up 22 parking meters
seems like, he walks up , you know why i pulled over , um nope , your tire here cross the double line,so i said to him , in a very nice way , so you rather i hit the pole then,he saying , listen here, you cross the yellow line,i came back with, so i said you want too talk my lawer, i got one retainig he back down and let me go with a warning,
davetiow Thanks this. -
What an #######. Sometimes you have to cross the yellow line to make a right turn. He knew the ticket would have been a no brainer dismissal so he went with a warning instead and he shouldn't have even done that!
