    Hello all,
My name is Isaac and I am going to be making a decision this month about wether or not to go to a local school and get my CDL. I have been reading this websight every chance I get for the last month or so. I believe I have what it takes to become a truck driver and also what it takes to "be" a truck driver. I need to make a decision this month because the school I am looking at starts Oct 3rd. I am going to keep reading, and in a couple of weeks I will know for sure. Any tips or advise will be greatly appriciated.

    Thanks for reading
    Isaac

Hello Isaac and welcome to TTR!

There is plenty of info here, and of course if you dont find what you want, then post a question. There are sections here dedicated to students and training choices, so read as much as you can before making your decision.
    Good luck!

    Thanks everyone,
I am a contractor right now so I'v been working a day or two every week. The rest of my time i'v spent here reading and searching. Everything I come accross has been very helpful in my decision making. I had a plan all together as far as the direction I wanted to go in getting my CDL, and the company I wanted to start with. But today te buider I was working for told me he has an uncle who owns a long haul company and would possibly hire me if I got my permit. So now I dont know what to do. Any advice?
    Thanks

Good choice,I'm an IITR grad, enjoyed my time there (Clackamas) and felt it was a good school.
You would sure be close to home if you started with May Trucking, they hired me right out of school.

Would "possibly" hire you. Not particularly sure if I care for that part. Talk to the uncle before your school start date and try to get a feel for him. If he'll train you and let you use one of his trucks for your practical test, it may be a way to save you $4G. If you choose to go that route, bone up on your PTI. Oregon will test you on that. Including the brakes bleed down/charge test. (Got my CDL initially from Oregon.)

Whatever you decide, keep us updated.

So next week is the BIG decision. I am going to talk to my friends uncle hopefully mid week. He also said he knows the owner of a flat bed company close to my house that would possibly give me a shot if I got my permit. My neighbor, who is going to IITR too, is going to be back and we will be going down to IITR in Albany to check everything out. I will keep everyone posted about what I find, what I'm thinking, and what the final decision is.
    Drive safe
